With single-event wagering under way in Canada, sportsbook operators and platform providers are launching their products to take advantage of the new legislation.

Scientific Games Corporation was one of the first sportsbook platform providers to offer single-game betting in Canada.

When Canada launched single-event betting on Aug. 27, Scientific Games went live with its OpenSports product suite powering the British Columbia Lottery Corporation (BCLC) and Loto-Quebec and Atlantic Lottery Corporation sportsbooks.

“We are pleased to extend our relationship with Scientific Games and to expand our sportsbook offering with its singles offering,” said Charlene Nielsen, Director of Product Management at BCLC. “We look forward to continuing to work with Scientific Games as we innovate and evolve our business.”

Before Canada’s updated legislation that permitted single-event wagering, players could only bet on parlays in the country’s regulated market. Now, Canadians can enjoy a more comprehensive sports betting experience.

The simplicity of single-event wagering introduces live betting on games and allows recreation players to gain easier access to sports wagering.

“To be able to offer singles betting to our customers on day one of the new legislation being implemented was very important to Loto-Quebec,” Louis Beaudet, Director, Sports and Entertainment Betting at Loto-Quebec, said in a media release. “Offering these bets using Scientific Games’ OpenSports platform makes this even more special, such as the longstanding relationship we have had and we are excited to bring yet more sports betting options to our players.”
