Grosvenor Joins the Microgaming Poker Network

Grosvenor Joins the Microgaming Poker Network

By Contributor | February 17th, 2016

Grosvenor Poker has become the latest online operator to join the ever-expanding Microgaming Poker Network (MPN). Grosvenor, which has 55 live venues across the UK and a heritage that dates back to 1970, joined the top ten ranked poker network at the start of 2016 as part of a wider strategy to elevate its online offerings.

According to a recent GamblingKingz article, Grosvenor's Head of Digital Poker, Rory Cartwright, explained that MPN's current momentum and affinity with poker made it a natural choice:

"We're looking forward to marrying our strong retail poker presence with an online network which is growing month-on-month, year-on-year".

Building on Tradition

Grosvenor's online operation currently serves around 110,000 players, and that's on top of the droves of players who use its network of physical casinos. Due in large part to the Grosvenor UK Poker Tour (GUKPT), which recently celebrated its 10th birthday, poker has always been an integral part of the company's gaming portfolio, and this recent partnership will only add to its strength.

According to PokerScout's latest traffic reports, the MPN has a daily cash game peak of just over 1,100 players. This makes it the tenth largest poker platform in the world, and with the addition of Grosvenor to the network, numbers look set to increase over the coming months. Head of Poker at Microgaming, Alex Scott, reports:

"The addition of the Grosvenor brand to the network will help to accelerate our growth in 2016".

New Features

As well as giving Grosvenor's online users access to instant play, mobile and downloadable poker platforms for the first time, the deal with the MPN will open up some interesting possibilities in the live poker arena.

Like Grosvenor Poker, the MPN hosts its own live poker tournament series, dubbed the MPN Tour. The tour, which was founded in 2014 and stops in locations across Europe such as London, Tallinn and Vienna, is becoming a popular low-stakes series for those players whose budgets might not stretch to the likes of the European Poker Tour (EPT).

Although details of a possible collaboration between Grosvenor's UK-based poker series and the MPN Tour haven't been announced, Scott hinted at a possible "synergy" between the two products in the coming months.

PKR Joins the MPN Family

The MPN has also recently announced the arrival of PKR to its ranks. Widely regarded as the world's leading 3D poker site since its launch in 2006, PKR has always existed as an independent entity, much like PokerStars. The news of the two companies' decision to partner comes in the midst of the current industry trend for consolidation, and the high-profile merging of companies such as Paddy Power and Betfair.

While the site will maintain its 3D dynamic, it will now benefit from the addition of more players and innovative gaming options such as MPN's fast-fold poker variant, Blaze. With two major additions to the network in as many months, the MPN looks poised to become an even more prominent player in the poker market this year.
