Liverpool Second Favourites in 2020-21 Premier League Betting
Manchester City are the bookmakers’ favourites to win the Premier League next season despite Liverpool’s dominance in clinching their 19th league title.
The Reds beating Crystal Palace 4-0 on Wednesday coupled with Manchester City’s failure to beat Chelsea on Thursday confirmed Liverpool as champions of the 2019-20 season.
Their first league title since the 1989-90 campaign sparked wild celebrations in the city of Liverpool, despite the ongoing threat of coronavirus, but bookmakers believe Manchester City – who had won the previous two Premier League titles – will return to the summit next year.
Ladbrokes lead with Manchester City at 6/5 as they opened the outright betting on the 2020-21 season, with champions Liverpool closely following at 11/8 in what is already regarded as a two-horse race.

💙 Man City - 6/5
🏆 Liverpool - 11/8
🔵 Chelsea - 12/1
🔴 Man Utd - 12/1
⚪️ Tottenham - 33/1
🔴 Arsenal - 50/1
⚫️ Newcastle - 100/1
🟠 Wolves - 100/1
🔵 Leicester - 250/1
The bookmakers have factored in the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations – which is scheduled to take place from January 9 to February 6, 2021 – with Liverpool having four African players in their first-team squad, including key men Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mane who are expected to feature for Egypt and Senegal respectively.
Chelsea and Manchester United are both 12/1 outsiders, with Tottenham and Arsenal thought to be way off the standard at 33/1 and 50/1 respectively. Leicester, who are chasing a top four finish this season, are once again written off at 250/1.
Liverpool Going For Records
With 86 points from 31 games played – that’s 28 wins, two draws and one defeat – Liverpool are 23 points clear and could yet break Manchester City’s record 100-point season (2017-18) should they maintain their level of performance into the final seven games of the season.
Indeed, by winning the title after just 31 games, it is the earliest stage of a Premier League season in which the champions have been mathematically confirmed, despite coming on June 25 due to a three-month suspension amid Covid-19.
There are many more records that could still be broken over the next seven games too, as Jurgen Klopp’s side close in on the record number of wins in a Premier League season (32) while they also look well-placed to beat City’s 19-point winning margin after 38 games.
Meanwhile, Liverpool captain Jordan Henderson has had his odds cut in the betting on BBC Sports Personality of the Year Award for 2020. The England international is now 8/1 third favourite behind Tyson Fury (6/4) and Marcus Rashford (7/4).
As for the PFA Player of the Year odds, the market is dominated by Klopp’s champions, with five of the top six in the betting pecking order being Liverpool players. Mane is the 7/4 favourite ahead of Henderson (2/1), with City’s Kevin De Bruyne a 4/1 chance.
Defenders Virgil van Dijk and Trent Alexander-Arnold are 5/1 and 16/1 outsiders respectively, while Salah is as long as 25/1 with some of the biggest online bookmakers.
