NFL Strikes First Canadian Casino Agreement With Gateway

Gateway Casino & Entertainment has become the NFL’s first Canadian casino partner.

The multi-year agreement will see the British Columbia based operator “become the Official National Land-Based Casino Partner of the NFL in Canada,” Gateway announced Tuesday in a press release. As part of the deal Gateway’s signature dining brand, MATCH Eatery & Public House, will also be the exclusive presenting sponsor of the NFL Fantasy App, Canadian news outlet sudbury.com reported.

The deal gives Gateway the right to use NFL trademarks in Canada and to engage at NFL events such as the Super Bowl, Pro Bowl and Draft.

NFL’s Other Groundbreaking Casino Deals

The NFL agreed to a deal with Caesars to become the league’s first official casino sponsor this year. But even before that, the Dallas Cowboys and Baltimore Ravens signed their own casino partnership deals and the New York Jets became the first team with an online betting sponsor, 888 Holdings.

“We are thrilled to partner with the NFL in Canada as their first Canadian Land-Based Casino Partner. We know there are millions of football fans across Canada and to be able to offer exclusive, unique experiences to them at our properties is very exciting,” Carrie Kormos, Gateway's chief marketing and communications officer, said in its press release.

“This comes at such an exciting time as the NFL is celebrating 100 years of football this season and we look forward to celebrating with them as a new partner in Canada.”

NFL Celebrating 100th season

The deal was inked just in time for the upcoming gridiron season, with Gateway set to put its multi-year sponsorship into action before the NFL’s 100th season opens Sept. 5. According to Canadian media outlet sootoday.ca, casino-goers can expect an immersive NFL experience activations including unique game day decor, exclusive promotions and even opportunities to meet NFL players and alumni.

”NFL Canada is truly proud to be working with Gateway to collaborate and help accelerate its business in Canada,” NFL Canada managing director David Thomson said in the press release. “Like the NFL and our players, Gateway sets itself apart in the market through unparalleled teamwork and commitment to excellence, which makes our new partnership so powerful in Canada.”

According to the release, Gateway is planning an official kickoff party even before the regular season starts, on Aug. 22 for the preseason game in Winnipeg, Manitoba, between the Oakland Raiders and Green Bay Packers. The celebrations will be held at the Starlight Casino in New Westminster, BC, and another at the Casino Rama Resort in Rama, Ontario.
