NY Sportsbooks See 175% Increase In Revenue During September

New York’s total sports betting revenue once again doubled for the month of September. In July, New York launched regulated sports betting. While mobile sports wagering is still not permitted in the Empire State, there are currently four brick-and-mortar sportsbooks as part of the New York betting scene.

Two sportsbooks initially launched in July, followed by two more in August. All four sportsbooks saw an increase in sports betting revenue in September from the previous month. Three of the four sportsbooks doubled their revenue, according to the official monthly commercial gaming report by the New York State Gaming Commission.

The four New York sportsbooks took in a total combined sports betting revenue of $2.3 million, an increase of 175.3% from the previous month. Industry professionals feel that sports betting revenue would greatly increase if mobile sports wagering was legalized in New York, but legislation on the matter has been recently cut short.

Both sports bettors and New York sportsbooks alike are hoping that mobile sports wagering will be addressed in a legislative session in January 2020.

Rivers Casino’s Sportsbook Remains the Most Popular Among New Yorkers

In July, Rivers Casino & Resort in Schenectady was the first to launch its sportsbook — operated by Rush Street Interactive — followed shortly by Tioga Casino’s FanDuel sportsbook in Nichols that same month. For Tioga sportsbook’s first full month in August, the casino reported $132,030 in revenue.

The FanDuel-powered sportsbook was the only one of the four in September to not double their revenue from the previous month, though it still saw a 22.6% increase in September for a sports-betting revenue of $161,834. The Rush Street Interactive sportsbook at Rivers Casino remains the most popular selection among New York sports bettors. The upscale New York sportsbook features a luxury lounge that has done a great job in enticing players to visit.

In August, the sportsbook reported a revenue of $445,291. In September, the Rivers Casino saw a 102.2% in sports betting with a revenue of $903,892.

Two Sportsbooks Report Their First Full Month of Action

In August, two new sportsbooks launched in New York, del Lago Casino’s DraftKings' sportsbook in Waterloo and Resorts World Catskills in Monticello, operated by International Gaming Company (IGT) and Betgenius.

The IGT and Betgenius sportsbook at Resorts saw a revenue of $67,881 for the short time they were active in August. In September, Resorts had $381,210 in revenue and showed the largest percentage increase - 461.6% - from August.

On Aug. 23, del Lago Casino launched its DraftKings-operated sportsbook. Though it was only open for about a week, the popular sportsbook still managed to garner $182,950 in revenue for August. The DraftKings sportsbook garnered the second highest revenue for September with $836,929, an increase of 375.5%.
