Playtech Launches Second Highly-Anticipated Gladiator Slot

By Contributor | February 2nd, 2018

Given the success of the original Gladiator slot, the only surprise regarding Playtech’s decision to release a sequel to the all-conquering game is how long it has taken to make! The first Gladiator game in the series, which was a loose adaptation of the Hollywood movie of the same name, was released back in 2014 and received almost universally positive reviews.

It's something of a surprise that it has taken the best part of four years for software house Playtech to develop a follow-up, but good things come to all who wait, as the old saying goes. Now gamers can enjoy the thrills and spills of Gladiator Road to Rome: an all-action slot title, again loosely based on the Russell Crowe film, at Coral Casino any time they choose.

Italian Stallions

This is, technically, the third instalment in Playtech’s Gladiator series, following the rapturously received original and its follow-up Gladiator Jackpot. But in terms of all-encompassing slot gameplay, Road to Rome can be considered a direct sequel to the first release. The concept is the same: head to the Colosseum and take on your fellow gladiators, winning cash bounties as you go.

Featuring Playtech’s traditional format of five reels and 25 paylines, the object is to reveal three or more matching symbols in a winning combination on your reel-set. Fans of the original film will recognise the characters who feature, ranging from Joaquin Phoenix’s Commodus to the legendary Oliver Reed’s Proximo. There are a number of special symbols that pop up in Road to Rome, including the Gladiator icon itself which can turn wild to create some fantastic winning lines.

Free Spins

You'll want to hear about free spins: does the game feature any? And how do I claim them? Well, it’s simple: just land three or more of the scatter symbol anywhere on your reels. These will pay out five, eight or twelve freebies depending on how many you triggered the feature with. Players are then led inside the Colosseum, where they can pick from the shields to earn more free spins, multipliers, nudges, extra wilds and all manner of goodies.

The gameplay in Road to Rome is similar to that of its predecessors, but when it comes down to the visual aspects of the game there really is no contest. Playtech have truly upped the ante with their latest release, with the stadium background adding to the theatre of the game. And players will never tire of hearing the triumphal stabs of music when they land a winning spin!

Progressive Play

‘Brothers, what we do in life echoes in eternity’ is a line from the Ridley Scott’s movie version of 2000, and it’s a sentiment that will ring true for you if you can manage to land the progressive jackpot prize in Road to Rome. The opportunity to do so arises in the Gladiator Bonus feature, where a series of warrior’s helmets are lined up on the screen in front of you. Your task is to pick from the collection to reveal cash prizes – if you uncover nine golden helmets you will win the jackpot.

The amount you actually claim will be based upon how much the prize kitty has grown, but remember these Playtech progressives are linked to dozens of top online casinos around the globe. This means your chance to win a life-changing sum of money is very much in the offing. Put your sandals on and get spinning over at Coral Casino now!
