The announcement comes as MLB teams begin reporting to train for the start of a 60-game season. The 2020 season, along with sports worldwide, was delayed in March because of the coronavirus.

“We’re thrilled to work with MLB, helping bring our fans an even deeper experience as we begin our multi-state expansion of theScore Bet,” John Levy, founder and CEO of theScore, said in the news release. “We know our fans are eager to watch and bet on America’s pastime, and we’ll be ready to bring them a best-in-class integrated media and betting offering when play resumes and for seasons to come.”

There are six other sportsbooks authorized by MLB as gaming operators — Bet365, Bet MGM, DraftKings, FanDuel, FoxBet and Intralot, according to Sports Business Journal.

“Working with theScore is another important step in offering baseball fans a variety of unique gaming options to continually engage with our sport,” Kenny Gersh, MLB executive vice president for gaming & new business ventures, said in the release. “theScore is an innovative company that shares our vision for developing fandom with new, creative gaming opportunities on a variety of platforms.”

What Is theScore?

Beginning Sept. 3 in New Jersey, theScore became the first sports app (available on iOS and Android) to be created and launched by a media company, Score Media. In addition to being available in New Jersey, theScore Bet sportsbook app, which also delivers sports news and scores, will launch soon in Indiana and Colorado, according to the company.

On Jan. 22, theScore announced that it had reached a multiyear agreement with the NBA to become an authorized sportsbook. The deal gave theScore access to official NBA betting data and league logos, similar to the MLB deal.

In both agreements, theScore and MLB/NBA pledge to collaborate on best practices to protect the integrity of their games.
