Twitch User Streams 1,000 Hours of Online Poker in 125 Days

By Trey Killian | March 15th, 2018

Poker enthusiast is perhaps an understatement when describing former Big Brother Canada contestant and Twitch streamer Arlie Shaban. This week, the online poker enthusiast did something remarkable completing 1,000 hours of streaming in 125 days. After, of course, checking with the Guinness Book of World Records to see if the feat would register he was disappointed to find it would not. He decided to give it a go anyway and ended up setting a milestone that he and his viewers won’t soon forget.

Poker Becomes a Profession

He began the streak back in early November of last year streaming eight hours every single day for 50 days while scheduling gym, food and sleep breaks in between. As the streak grew, Shaban went from playing for kicks to playing for his profession and his rising notoriety helped spur his decision.

“I always knew I was going to give streaming a shot,” Shaban told PokerNews. “I started obsessing over Twitch and I decided that if I was going to be a streamer I wasn’t going to half ass it.”

After reaching 500 hours in 62 days he decided that the numbers he was on pace for if he reached his initial 100-day goal just wouldn’t be impressive enough by his standards. That’s when he decided to go by hours rather than days.

“I was aiming for 100 days at that point but thought that’s only 800 hours and 1,000 hours is so close. I used 100 days as a decoy and didn’t tell anyone my true intentions until the end of day 100. One thousand hours in 125 days adds up to a perfect eight hours per day. I really enjoy numbers and statistics, and when I saw all the stats align like that I just set the goal and went after it.”

Endeavor Profitable in More Ways Than One

While one might assume the endeavor was a costly one, Shaban revealed on an Instagram comment that he’s actually won over $10,000. That’s certainly a living given the number of days he’s put in and a great way to expand his brand, as he’s also seen his list of total followers grow from 140 to 7,000. As a bonus, Shaban received a tribute from PokerStars, considered among the top poker sites:

The mouthwatering Main Event sports a buy-in of €10,300, but PartyPoker has made sure even the smallest of budgets will get their fair chance to grab a seat at the event and a chance to become a millionaire. Players don’t need to play for days like Shaban, however. They need only sign up for the My PartyPoker LIVE service to collect a free ticket (a $22) to enter into online satellite competitions and play their way to Spain.

The contests take place every Sunday at 8 pm GMT and the prize is a thrilling $16,000-package that includes the Main Event Buy-in, accommodations from April 8th-16th (the eight nights of the tournament) and an extra $500 in expenses.
