DraftKings vs. FanDuel In Indiana

The DraftKings sportsbook, through its partnership with Ameristar Casino in East Chicago, had a larger handle in July than the entire state did in June with $34,022,029, an increase of 84.6% over June’s total of $18,430,007. Nearly $33 million of the July handle at Ameristar was mobile.

The FanDuel sportsbook, through its partnership with the Blue Chip Casino In Michigan City, which is in northern Indiana on Lake Michigan, saw $24,468,974 in July sports handle. That was a 210% increase over June’s $7,900,687 in total handle at Blue Chip. Belterra Casino in Florence, also aligned with FanDuel, saw $3,647,366 wagered in July, a 220% increase over June’s $1,141,097.

Increases At Other Indiana Sportsbooks

Other top sportsbooks saw big boosts in July. Hollywood Lawrenceburg, where PointsBet operates, saw $3,789,448 in July handle, a 349% increase from June. The French Lick Resort, with its BetRivers sportsbook, had $2,702,634 wagered in July, a 100% increase from June.

The gaming commission authorized Unibet sportsbook to go live in the state on July 30. It should provide a lift to August numbers. Unibet has a partnership with the Horseshoe Hammond Casino in Hammond, about 30 miles from Chicago.

Unibet is the eighth online sportsbook in Indiana, joining DraftKings, FanDuel, Caesars, BetMGM, BetRivers, PointsBet and BetAmerica.

The Kindred Group, Unibert’s parent company, had announced an agreement with Caesars Entertainment earlier this year to give Unibet access to Indiana and Iowa, two important Midwest legalized betting states.

Return of Major Sports Fueling Numbers

August numbers should even be better for Indiana as the NBA, NHL and MLB will have full schedules for the entire month unless there is another coronavirus stoppage.

And the Indiana Pacers are currently in fifth place in the Eastern Conference playoff race. They play the Miami Heat, currently fourth in the standings, twice this week as both teams try to hold on to the fourth and fifth spots, respectively.

Because the NBA, NHL and MLB didn’t restart until the end of July or early August, the “other” category saw $33,370,840 wagered in July (it was $20,408,642 in June). But baseball was getting noticed by bettors to the tune of $14,520,960 in July. It was just over $2 million in June. And basketball had $5,834,237 bet on it in July; it was just over $600,00 in June.
