Iowa Makes Four States for theScore Bet After it Goes Live
TheScore Bet is now live in Iowa, giving the sportsbook operator four active states. The mobile sportsbook is also taking bets in Colorado, Indiana and New Jersey.
“We have expanded theScore Bet to three new markets in the last six months, significantly increasing our footprint,” John Levy, founder and chief executive officer of Score Media and Gaming Inc., said in a news release. “We’re thrilled to introduce our mobile sportsbook to Iowans as the college basketball season heats up ahead of the tournament in March. We have a large base of theScore app users in Iowa and now, with the launch of theScore Bet, fans will have easy access to our integrated and technology-driven sports betting experience.”
TheScore Bet app is available on iOS and Android. According to the news release, it “delivers an immersive and holistic mobile sports betting offering, including a wide range of pre-game and in-play betting across all major sports leagues and events, and a comprehensive variety of bet types.” TheScore Bet also gives users a seamless cross-state experience for fans as it continues to expand in the U.S.
Bet.Works is theScore’s iGaming supplier and platform technology provider and keyed theScore’s Iowa launch. TheScore has used a variety of technology and services from Bet.Works since it became theScore’s technology platform partner in 2018.
TheScore recently implemented a new Bet Section, serving as a dedicated home for wagering on theScore app that enhances the cross-platform experience with theScore Bet, according to the news release. Players will find the Bet Section has personalized betting features, including prioritized and tailored markets, live bet tracking and exclusive promotions. These additions will make it easier for bettors to create wager slips, follow their action and get cash-out offers.
“Our approach at theScore has always been to treat betting as another part of the fan experience,” Levy has said. “By tightly integrating our media and gaming platforms, we’ve created something that is completely unique.”
Iowa Market Thriving
When Iowa’s in-person registration requirement ended on Jan. 1, the state started the new year setting records in total sports betting handle, mobile handle and revenue for a month.
Iowa’s total sports wagering handle in January was $149.5 million, up 42.7% from December’s $104.8 million and a 157% increase from January 2020 ($58 million). It was the fifth straight month that Iowa set a handle record for sports wagering and the second straight month that Iowa topped $100 million in total handle.
The records should continue to grow in 2021 after theScore Bet and other top online sportsbook apps entered the market. William Hill, BetMGM, BetRivers and PointsBet are among new apps to go live recently with remote registration in place.
