Michigan June Total Sports Betting Handle Steady at $259.5M
Michigan online sports betting numbers held steady for another month as the total handle was up slightly. Online operators reported a Michigan sports betting handle of $235.1 million, down 1% from May’s $237.6 million. But retail was up in June, giving the total handle a small boost month over month.
On the MI online casino side, operators reported $89.2 million in internet gaming gross receipts for June, down 5.6% from May’s total of $94.9 million, according to figures released Monday by the Michigan Gaming Control Board.
“Michigan’s gross internet casino gaming and online sports betting wagering receipts in June roughly matched May,” Henry Williams, Michigan Gaming Control Board executive director, said in a news release. “Summer is here, and Michigan is reopening after the pandemic restrictions, so there are many entertainment opportunities. The slight tenth of a percent decline from May to June shows internet gaming and online sports betting continues to draw Michigan residents’ and visitors’ interest.”
Combined with the $24.3 million retail handle in June from Detroit’s three commercial casinos, the total sports betting handle amounted to $259.5 million for June, up 0.7% from May’s $257.7 million.
Total online adjusted gross sports betting receipts came in at $16.8 million for June, up 41% from May’s $9.9 million. Add in the $2.2 million in revenue from retail sports betting, and Michigan’s gross gaming revenue was $19 million for June, an increase of 63.9% from May’s $11.6 million.
The June sports betting tax to the state amounted to $1,014,360 (927,575 online, $86,785 retail), up 48.9% from May’s $681,249 ($615,153 online, $66,096 retail).
