Mobile Restriction Remains

Mississippi’s 26 commercial casinos — 13 on land and 13 on riverboats —reopened in late May at 50% capacity after being closed because of the coronavirus pandemic. When they did reopen there were few of the major sports being played.

Since July bettors in Mississippi have had more betting opportunities. But sports bettors must place online wagers inside one of the commercial casinos since there is a restriction on mobile sports betting. Most states that have reported September wagering figures have been seeing record totals.

New Jersey last week announced a U.S record total handle of $748.6 million in September, which easily shattered the record month for a state and nationally. The previous record was $668 million in New Jersey in August.
