TwinSpires Ready for Week 2
The Churchill Downs Incorporated sportsbook is up and running, just in time for second week of NFL betting. The New York Giants play the Washington Football Team Thursday to kick off the start of the second week of the regular season.
TwinSpires gained access to the Arizona market through a partnership with the Tonto Apache Tribe. The tribe operates the Mazatal Hotel and Casino.
Arizona officially launched online sports betting on Sept. 9 and has experienced a great deal of success in that first week.
TwinSpires is joining FanDuel Sportsbook, DraftKings Sportsbook, BetMGM Sportsbook, Caesars Sportsbook, Penn National/Barstool and WynnBet Sportsbook as the operators who are currently live with their online sports betting platforms in the state.
TwinSpires will also feature a retail sportsbook within the Mazatzal Casino, which is located in Payson. Arizona is now the seventh state where TwinSpires is active.
The sportsbook is also live in Michigan sports betting, Mississippi, Tennessee sports betting, Colorado sports betting, Pennsylvania sports betting and Indiana sports betting. TwinSpires also plans to launch in New Jersey in the third quarter of 2021.
More Operators to Come
Arizona handed out 18 online sports betting licenses. Ten went to operators partnered with Arizona tribes, while the other eight worked out deals with professional sports teams.
Arizona One of the Busiest States in Week 1 of the NFL
GeoComply Solutions Inc. revealed sports betting data from the state-approved and regulated sportsbooks across the country for Week 1 of the NFL season. And according to the data, Arizona was one of the most active sports betting states.
Arizona ranked fourth in total transaction volume, recording more than 6.1 million geolocation transactions from more than 271,000 new accounts. Data was collected from Thursday, when the Tampa Bay Buccaneers kicked off the season against the Dallas Cowboys, through Sunday night.
“Arizona is showing that there is pent up demand for sports betting in the western part of the U.S.,” Lindsay Slader, Managing Director of Gaming for GeoComply, said in a media release. “The state has catapulted near the top as the fourth largest state for transactions, in just its first weekend. We haven’t seen anything quite like it.”
In total, there were 58.2 million geolocation transactions across 18 states and the District of Columbia. The number was a 126% increase from the same period during the 2020 NFL season when GeoComply processed 25.8 million transactions.
