The World Poker Tour is giving players at New Jersey’s top online poker sites a chance at a new, major prize.

The first WPT Online Poker Open will be June 28, featuring a $300,000 guaranteed with a $400 buy-in. Players do not have to live in New Jersey to participate but they must be inside the state’s borders at the time of the tournament.

WPT Tournament Details

Players can use BetMGMPoker.com, NJ.PartyPoker.com or BorgataPoker.com for the WPT event.

Qualifying tournaments begin June 21 for as little as $5 buy-ins. U.S. players joining from home in New Jersey can participate in qualifying events and No-Limit Hold’Em satellite rounds with multiple events happening every day leading up to the main event.

The grand prize winner will get a World Poker Tour VIP experience in Las Vegas worth $11,000, according to a WPT news release. That package includes the buy-in into the WPT Five Diamond World Poker Classic at the Bellagio.

The official name of the tournament is the WPT Online Poker Open powered by partypoker US Network.

“We continually strive to offer opportunities for players to enjoy the game they love on a safe, secure and hassle-free network,” partypoker US Network director of poker Ray Stefanelli said. “We are excited to combine the prestige of WPT with the offering of our poker network to provide a championship-caliber trophy event to players in New Jersey.”

Online Poker Tournament Trend Continues

This week’s announcement is part of a continuing trend of major poker tournaments moving from the felt tables of major casinos to the comforts of players’ homes.

Among the legal online poker opportunities is the World Series of Poker Global Casino Championships.

That event was originally going to happen Aug. 11-13 in Cherokee, North Carolina, but was transformed into an online-only event to take place on Sept. 13. Players in New Jersey as well as Nevada can participate in the main event; qualifiers are already underway.

In addition, the 2020 World Series of Poker will be held online for the first time, beginning July 1.
