The WPT Online Borgata Series is the latest new online poker tournament option for players in New Jersey, with the World Poker Tour partnering with partypoker to present the event.

The online poker series, scheduled for Sept. 13-21, replaces the WPT Borgata Poker Open, which had been scheduled in September for the brick-and-mortar Atlantic City casino.

The new event has $275,000 in total guarantees and the two-day main event that wraps up the tournament has a a $1,060 buy-in. The tournament is only open to New Jersey online poker players.

Eligibility for WPT Online Borgata Series

Players can register through BorgataPoker.com, BetMGMPoker.com or NJPartypoker.com and must be in New Jersey at the time of each individual event, according to a release from worldpokertour.com on Tuesday.

The World Poker Tour has been busy this summer preparing online events in lieu of tournaments at physical casinos, which have been postponed or scuttled altogether in the wake of the coronavirus pandemic. This summer, the WPT offered New Jersey players the inaugural WPT Online Poker Open, which offered a $300,000 guarantee.

“WPT and partypoker US Network have created a unique festival for players of all bankrolls across New Jersey to compete in a weeklong series that combines the best of the live and online realm,” WPT Vice President of Global Tour Management Angelica Hael said in the release.

Online Poker Tournament Buy-in, Details

The WPT Online Borgata Series begins Sept. 13 with a $100,000 guaranteed No Limit Hold’em event. The buy-in for that is $215. See the WPT website for more details on buy-ins and eligibility.

Eligible New Jersey players can enter qualifiers for as little as a $5 buy-in. The two-day main event is Sept. 20-21 and the final table on Sept. 21 will be live streamed. The online BetMGM casino in New Jersey is part of the BetMGM venture, which is co-owned by MGM Resorts International and GVC Holdings.

The inaugural WPT Online Borgata Series is yet another example of online poker’s growing popularity as players seek a way to play the popular card game while they are unable to go to physical casinos during the COVID-19 pandemic — or simply because they prefer the convenience of being able to play online poker from home. One recent example is the World Series of Poker’s Summer Series online event, which wrapped up on Aug. 23.
