The World Series of Poker’s Global Casino Championships are headed online and a new Season Finale event in June will see 13 players seal their spots in that global WSOP online poker event.

The Global Casino Championships were originally set for Aug. 11-13 in Cherokee, North Carolina, but in light of social distancing concerns, the WSOP moved the event entirely online, according to the Las Vegas Review-Journal. The GCC will now take place online on Sept. 13 and has at least $1 million in guaranteed prize money.

The June qualifying tournament is open for players at New Jersey’s top online poker sites as well as players in Nevada. Entrants need a valid WSOP real money account and must be at least 21.

Season Finale Online Circuit Event Schedule

The Global Casino Championships qualifier, called the Season Finale Online Circuit, will run June 3-14 with a total of 12 events. Every event has a guarantee of at least $100,000.

In all, at least $1.65 million is guaranteed in the Season Finale series, which culminates June 14 with a Main Event worth $300,000 guaranteed on a $525 buy-in.

The 13 qualifiers from these events will join an exclusive field of previously qualified players in the Global Casino Championships field, according to a WSOP news release.

Players can make the field for the Global Casino Championships in a variety of ways:

  • Win a designated Circuit Main Event
  • Have the best cumulative performance from all 12 ring events at a WSOP stop
  • Make the top 50 in points from all domestic Circuit Events
  • Either win a WSOP Circuit ring or be in the top 100 of the WSOP Player of the Year rankings; players under this criteria who do not otherwise qualify for the GCC can buy in for $10,000.

Previous Spring Online Poker Events

The WSOP already conducted a Spring Online Championships in April and the Money May Tournament, which ended on May 24.

That Money May event had $4 million guaranteed in total.

The WSOP is not the only poker tour to either cancel tournaments at physical casinos or move them online. The latest was the PokerStars Barcelona Championship event, which had been set for Aug. 20-24; PokerStars announced last week that this year’s tournament is canceled.
