WSOP Online Poker Series Worth $3M Marks 50th Anniversary

The annual World Series of Poker live series isn’t taking place this year because of the coronavirus pandemic, but the WSOP will still be celebrating its 50th Anniversary with an event for online players. From Sept. 8-27, WSOP.com will host 50 online poker events with $3 million guaranteed in prize money.

The 50th Anniversary Series will include buy-ins from all levels. One feature event will be the $555 Main Event, which comes with a guaranteed prize pool of $505,050. Other notable events include:

  • $50 NLHE (Event 1) - $50,000 guarantee, Sept. 8
  • $320 NLHE (Event 14) - $150,000 guarantee, Sept. 13
  • $55 NLHE (Event 30) - $100,000 guarantee, Sept. 20
  • $2,000 NLHE (Event 36) - $150,000 guarantee, Sept. 22
  • $1,000 NLHE (Event 48) - $50,000 guarantee, Sept. 27

Most tournaments will be Texas Hold’em poker events with a few Omaha poker mixed in. A complete schedule can be found at WSOP.com.

The website will also feature a new daily tournament, the $215 Rack it Up, starting Sept. 8. The event has a $50,000 prize guarantee, matching the 50th anniversary theme. In addition to the prize pool, each day the guarantee is reached, an extra $5,000 will be added to the purse. Players at New Jersey’s top online poker sites who have a WSOP real money account are eligible, as well as those in Nevada and Delaware.

Rake-free events will also take place in September. “Dropping Dimes,” the new $10,000 guaranteed event, will take place randomly, rake-free, for a $50 buy-in. The tournaments will “drop” at random times in the event lobby.

Future WSOP Promotions Planned

WSOP.com will offer more bonuses this month. From Sept. 6-20, bettors can redeem a 100% deposit bonus up to $400 for existing members.

Also, the new “Free Love Freerolls” campaign will run during September, with the $10,000 freerolls running weekly. The first one will debut Sept. 9.

WSOP will also offer a Players Appreciation Tournament every Sunday in September. With a $100 buy-in, online players can compete for $100,000 in prizes each week.

Changes To Leaderboards

WSOP.com is mixing up its leaderboards and dishing out prize money in the process. Multiple bonuses are set to be awarded for Blast and Sit & Go players.

Blast events are four-handed Texas Hold’em tournaments giving players a chance to win up to 10,000 times their buy-in. The prize money is randomly decided before the event starts. There will be a $1,000 leaderboard bonus through Sept. 28. Sit & Go tournaments will also take place through Sept. 28. The top 15 will be rewarded with a share of $1,000 in weekly prizes.

This has been a busy time for online poker with the WSOP. The full 2020 World Series of Poker was held online for the first time and a summer series worth $3 million concluded recently.
