Handball has only really been on the British radar since the 2012 Olympics, but the sport has long been popular on the continent, with many European countries boasting top-level professional leagues that offer plenty of opportunities for betting on handball matches.

How to Play

Combining aspects of basketball, football and rugby, handball’s mix of dribbling, tackling and shooting makes for an end-to-end sport that you really can’t take your eyes off.

Matches consist of two teams of seven (one goalkeeper and six outfield players) competing for two halves of 30 minutes each. Players in possession can pass, shoot or dribble the ball using their hands. To dribble, a player can bounce the ball whilst moving, as in basketball, or they can take up to three steps for up to three seconds at a time without bouncing the ball. To score, players have to throw the ball into a goal, which is similar in size to a hockey goal, but they cannot go into the six-metre goal area to shoot, unless they are off the ground as they do so.

Games usually see at least 50 goals scored, so watching and betting on handball matches is always exciting. There are usually loads of matches happening throughout the year, with frequent international championships and the European Champions League taking place on top of the standard domestic leagues.

Recommended Handball Betting Sites

Coral Handball offers odds on all these matches and many more, with loads of interesting markets to bet on. While you can of course find the usual Match Winner odds, handball betting is particularly worthwhile if you wager on the handicap markets. You can get longer odds on a team to win by giving them a slight handicap, with even something like -2.5 goals offering you far better prices than simply betting on them outright.

Total Goals Over/Under Market

Another favourite is the Total Goals Over/Under market, where bookies set a number and the bettor can choose to go under or over that line. This requires only simple research into which teams score or concede a lot in order to help you decide which way to go.

Favourites

If you want to put money on a favourite, a good way to enhance your odds is betting on them to be ahead in a race to a certain number of goals. If you back them to win the Race to 5 or 10 goals, you will get better odds than backing them in the Race to 20 market, as underdogs are less likely to be able to outperform them for a longer period of time. In a Race to 5, the less fancied team has a chance to spring an early surprise, but this can be a risk worth taking if you’re looking for more rewarding odds for your team.

There are loads of other great handball betting options too, like Winning Margin, Double Result (half-time/full-time) and Highest Scoring Half markets. You can find all of these and many more by visiting Bet365 Sports today!
