Can Leicester City Upset the Bookies Again?

Can Leicester City Upset the Bookies Again?

The line-up for the 2016/17 Champions League quarter-finals will be completed this week as the final set of the round of 16 second legs take place. So far there are two German and two Spanish teams in the hat for the next round, but Leicester and Manchester City will be hoping to secure some English representation. This guide offers punters some handy tips and strategy for betting on this week’s four fixtures!

Betting Guide for Leicester City v Sevilla 2nd Leg

Leicester were largely outplayed in the first leg in Spain, but Jamie Vardy’s late strike gave them what could prove to be a crucial away goal. That match also turned out to be Claudio Ranieri’s last as Leicester manager as he was sacked just nine months after leading the Foxes to the Premier League title.

Since then, the English champions have won both their league games under interim boss Craig Shakespeare, which will give them added confidence for the second leg. Having paid out millions after Leicester’s title win last season, the bookies are not writing them off on this occasion.

The best odds you can get of the Foxes qualifying are 3/1 with Paddy Power, while odds of 8/13 on both teams to score look fair given that Leicester have struggled to keep clean sheets lately.

As for Sevilla, they’ve only lost one of their last 13 games in all competitions. Unlike their hosts, the Spanish outfit are experienced European campaigners and they are fancied by the bookies to get the job done. They’re 2/7 to qualify with bet365, while online betting sites like Betway have them at 5/4 to win on the night.

Betting Guide for Juventus v Porto 2nd Leg

Serie A champions Juventus host Porto with a comfortable 2-0 lead from the first leg. The two-time Champions League winners have been dominant in Italy again this season and they’re yet to lose in this competition. They’ve been particularly strong at home too, winning 19 of their 22 games in Turin. The ‘Old Lady’ are 7/10 with Betfair to notch up another victory on home turf.

Porto are also in good domestic form, winning 13 of their last 14 matches in the Primeira Liga. In fact, their loss in the first leg was one of only five defeats suffered all season.

We’ve already seen one great comeback in this round of 16 but it’ll be a big ask for the Portuguese side to win in Turin, as reflected by bet365’s odds of 16/1 on them to qualify and 21/4 to win on the night. Given that Juventus have only conceded two goals in the Champions League this season, a punt on them to win to nil at 13/8 with Ladbrokes looks a good bet.

Betting Guide for Atletico Madrid v Bayer 2nd Leg

There could well be four Spanish sides in the hat for Friday’s quarter-final draw, with Atletico Madrid holding a two-goal lead over Bayer Leverkusen from the first leg in Germany. Diego Simeone’s side go into the second leg on the back of two league wins and have won their last eight Champions League games in Madrid. Coral offer the best odds of 4/6 on Atletico to extend that run.

Like Leicester, Bayer Leverkusen have had a change of manager since the first leg. Their 4-2 defeat in the first leg was followed by two losses in the Bundesliga, leading to Roger Schmidt being sacked.

He’s been replaced by the relatively inexperienced Tayfun Korkut until the end of the season. The German side are 9/2 with Coral to win on the night and a generous 33/1 with Paddy Power to join their compatriots Bayern Munich and Borussia Dortmund in the next round.

Betting Guide for Monaco v Man City 2nd Leg

This round of 16 has produced some thrilling and high-scoring games but Manchester City’s 5-3 win at home to Monaco is certainly a contender for the best of them. Neutrals will be hoping for another entertaining game but City boss Pep Guardiola will just want his side to get the job done.

They’re unbeaten in 11 games in all competitions although they’ve only won one of their last six Champions League outings on the road, which is why some bookies have the two sides neck and neck when it comes to the winner on the night.

Monaco have won all four of their games since the first leg and have also won 15 of their last 16 at home, so Betway’s odds of 13/8 on the French side to win on the night look good value, while sites such as William Hill are offering odds of 4/1 on them to overturn the two-goal deficit and qualify.

Given the score in the first leg and the attacking flair in both camps, Betfair’s odds of 21/20 on over 3.5 goals are also worth considering. For a full range of Champions League and other football betting markets, head to Coral today where new customers can get £20 in free bets!
