NY Giants Storylines
For just the second time all season the New York Giants are in position to win two games in a row. That’s what happens after on- and off-field drama submarined any hopes of competing.
But Eli Manning (3 TD 0 INT) had his most productive outing so far, and Odell Beckham Jr. (4 catches, 73 yards, 2 TDs) dominated against San Francisco, winning 27-23. The air attack overcame a sluggish performance from the ground game, as Saquon Barkley was limited to just 67 yards on 20 carries.
Tampa Bay struggled on both sides of the ball in its loss to Washington last week, but the Giants can capitalize on how bad the Bucs secondary is playing. As for NYG’s defense, their opponent only put up a field goal last week.
We know the playmaking abilities the Giants have on offense, but this game will be won on Sunday by their defense. Frustrating and harassing Ryan Fitzpatrick as much as possible, keeping them out of the end zone no matter how successful Tampa is between the 20s.
Tampa Bay Buccaneers Storylines
The Bucs performance may not truly be reflected in how bad it looked on the scoreboard last week, losing 16-3 to Washington. Fitzpatrick did throw 2 INTs and could not find the end zone but did manage to put up 406 yards.
The Bucs moved the football in the air, they just couldn’t close the deal. Chris Godwin set the tone grabbing 7 balls for 103 yards but is listed as questionable this weekend with an ankle injury. The bad news for TB is that top LB Lavonte David is not expected to play, making an already suspect defense even worse.
Giants-Bucs Injury Report
Despite guys who have already been shut down or traded before the fire sale, the Giants may the healthiest they’ve been all year. LB Alec Ogletree was a full participant in practice on Thursday and looks to be playing through a rib injury.
In fact, all 53 players practiced ending the week. RB Johnathan Stewart was brought off the IR and returned to practice.
Unlike the Giants, it’s not as smooth for the Bucs when it comes to injuries. Look no further than Godwin, who missed practice and may miss the game with his banged-up ankle.
David’s knee is an issue as well, keeping the Bucs’ top LB out of practice all week. S Justin Evans will be a needed addition on the field against the Giants, but he missed practice with a toe injury. Evans might be out Sunday as well.
DE Vinny Curry (ankle) was limited and is questionable. Starting C Ryan Jensen is dealing with a hamstring injury, he was also limited this week.
Giants-Bucs Betting Tips & Picks
Here are some things for NFL betting fans to consider in this matchup:
The Bucs got a taste last week of what the Giants, who are 1.5-point hime favorites at 888Sport, have been dealing with most of the year. An offense that is productive and able to move the chains but simply unable to score. Last week was the only time TB scored in the single digits, and they continue to deal with the threat of a QB controversy after every turnover.
It’s kind of amazing, but we may have found a team in Tampa that’s more dysfunctional at the QB position than the Giants. Manning is coming off a huge performance, while Fitzgerald made some crucial mistakes including a terrible fumble.
Both teams have playmakers on offense, but the Bucs defense can’t stop anyone in the air. Coming back home from a trip out West is enough to give the Giants a decent edge. Take Big Blue -1.5 with 888Sport.
Total Away Team Points
The line has been set at 25.5 by Karamba, and I know I’m asking a team that couldn’t even score a TD last week to put up three of them this week. But this isn’t really that hard of a conclusion to reach.
The Bucs have been awful on defense, yet still score points. They have only had two games this season where they scored under 26 points. That’s a lot for an offense that’s seen multiple QBs struggle.
Let’s remember the Giants defense has been depleted and was just barely able to survive against the now 2-8 49ers. Take Bucs over 25.5 with Karamba.
The Bucs will score points, we know this based on their history so far this year. The Giants are healthy and are coming off one of their best offensive performances of the season, making the line of 5.5 attractive.
The Bucs defense is horrendous and is most likely down their top LB. The Giants defense has been depleted by trades and issues of consistency. The NFL is all about matchups, and this week’s game in NJ between these two teams screams offense.
From Beckham Jr. to Mike Evans, both teams boast some major skill guys. DeSean Jackson can burn down the field and score on one play. Expect some fireworks Sunday afternoon and bet the over with 888Sport!
