The quick stint that is the Utah and Sacramento Summer Leagues comes to a close tonight with another four-game slate. As is to be expected, we’ve seen some ugly shooting performances, faster pace than we’re expected to and some overall sloppy basketball. But the past four days have also taught us plenty about these eight young teams that have given us some insight on how to bet the final four games.
For you basketball betting fans, here are our picks for the final day of the Utah and Sacramento Summer Leagues. And make sure to check back tomorrow as we get you ready for a 10-game slate as the Las Vegas Summer League gets underway. The following odds are all from 888sport.
Golden State Warriors -2.5 vs. Los Angeles Lakers
Stop us if you’ve heard this before but it appears the Warriors have found another steal in the draft. No. 28 pick Jacob Evans made his Summer League debut on Tuesday and scored 13 points to go along with five rebounds and two steals. He and Kendrick Nunn have formed a backcourt pairing to complement Jordan Bell (averaging 2.5 steals and 2.0 blocks) and Damian Jones in the frontcourt. Unsurprisingly the Warriors are 2-0 in Summer League and can sweep Sacramento with a win over the Lakers.
Los Angeles has gotten contributions from rookies Moe Wagner (15.5 points, 5.5 rebounds) and Svi Mykhailiuk (13.5 points, 52% shooting) as well as Josh Hart (12.0 points). But the Lakers are 0-2 and haven’t received much help from any supporting cast members. Golden State is deep and they have the best player on the floor in Bell. Expect them to roll.
Sacramento Kings -3.5 vs. Miami Heat
No team in the league will have as much of their actual NBA rotation playing in the Summer League as the Kings do. While that probably doesn’t bode well for the regular season, it makes them the cream of the crop in the Summer League. Scoring leader De’Aaron Fox has averaged 23.0 points, 8.0 rebounds, 6.0 assists and 3.0 steals in two games, while No. 2 pick Marvin Bagley is averaging a modest 12.5 points and 6.5 rebounds. Last year’s first-round pick Justin Jackson can’t miss, and Frank Mason is averaging 16.0 points and 7.0 assists.
Miami has struggled outside of Derrick Jones (22.5 points, 54% FG, 8.0 rebounds) and Bam Adebayo (11.5 points, 12.0 rebounds). Given the talent on Sacramento, the Kings – playing in their own building – should continue their impressive summer, led by many of the same guys who will be suiting up for them when October rolls around. The Kings have a significant edge in this one.
Memphis Grizzlies +1.5 vs. San Antonio Spurs
True, there are only four teams in Utah and they’ve only played two games apiece. But it’s still impressive that Memphis has the second, third and fourth leading scorers. They’re led by No. 4 pick Jaren Jackson Jr., who is averaging 19.5 points and has made 10 3-pointers in two games. They’ve also got real NBA talent in Kobi Simmons (20.5 points) and Wayne Selden (20.0 points), so it isn’t surprising they’ve gone 2-0, including a win over the “home” Jazz.
The Spurs do have the league’s leading scorer in Derrick White (21.5 points) but first-round pick Lonnie Walker IV struggled in his debut (seven points) before resting in Game 2. He’ll be back and fresh, but that won’t be enough to topple what has been the most impressive Summer League team in Memphis. The Grizzlies are getting points but they’ve got a real shot to win this one outright.
Atlanta Hawks +4.5 vs. Utah Jazz
Trae Young has to get his shot going at some point, right? The No. 5 pick has made just 9 of 36 shots in two Summer League games. The good news is last year’s first-round pick John Collins has been an animal, and fellow rookie Omari Spellman has held his own. We’re going to bet on Young wanting to finish his first Summer League stint on a high note, and he’s simply too good for his shot to struggle like this three straight games. With Grayson Allen resting for Utah, the Hawks should be able to keep this one close. The 4.5 points are a lot for a Summer League game, so we’ll gladly take them and see if Young can find his way out of this mini, mini slump.
