Pegasus World Cup 2019 Betting Tips: A Clash of the Titans
In a short span of time, the Pegasus World Cup has established itself as a meeting place for greatness. Arrogate versus California Chrome, then last year Gun Runner against West Coast. This year once again does the same. Breeders’ Cup winners Accelerate and City of Light will clash in a field that simply isn’t filler behind them.
How to Bet 2019 Pegasus World Cup
Start with the Big 2
Accelerate and City of Light have seen each other before with the score tied at 1-1. It’s really hard not to look at their Breeders’ Cup wins from a few months back and attempt to predict who will be at their best on Saturday.
Accelerate took care of business as he had so many times last year. But to call it a flashy win would be overstating his Breeders’ Cup Classic win. Let’s call it workman like. City of Light on the other hand absolutely blitzed the competition in the Breeders’ Cup Dirt Mile.
City of Light also draws well for the Pegasus World Cup in post position 3. Given that Accelerate is just to his outside in post 5, City of Light is in a perfect position to dictate the race from the start. City of Light will be a slightly better price than Accelerate. In ante-post betting at top horse racing bookmakers, City of Light is 5/2 vs. 3/2 for Accelerate.
If you're a horse racing betting fan looking for the simple approach, lean towards a win bet on City of Light.
Gunnevera, the Over-Achiever
These are the types of horses we love to pull for in racing. A $16,000 purchase that has earned over $4.1 million, Gunnevera is just that. He was the only horse making up any significant ground in the Breeders’ Cup Classic where he finished second.
Of his $4.1 million bankroll, $1.8 million has been earned in races at Gulfstream Park, give him the home-court advantage angle. He’s a deep closer. That has been established for a while and it’s not easy to big races with that approach, you need help.
He needs City of Light to be softened up with pressure from either Patternrecognition or Bravazo, who may be forced to show speed because of his post one draw. If that happens watch out for the local horse late.
You Can Back Gunnevera Here:
Don’t Call an “Audible”
I was all-in on Audible in Kentucky Derby betting last year, and all things considered he ran a big race to finish third after being 12th early on. But he has not improved since then.
His speed figures in his two com back races since the Derby have shown that he has not taken a step forward. In Audible’s last race he fell victim to a lack of early pace, but even with that excuse a horse of his class should have overcome that.
I am not saying he can’t contend in big races this year; I just do not see it happening Saturday against these monsters.
Patternrecognition May Have Already Lost
Post postion 12 is hands down the worst place to start from going a mile-and-an-eighth at Gulfstream Park on dirt, especially for a horse with early speed. Patternrecognition has both.
He has shown a lot of talent in his career and is coming off of a Grade 1 win in New York, but once he drew post 12, hope disappeared as he is getting set to make his two- turn debut.
2019 Pegasus World Cup Best Bets
Have a strong bet on City of Light with Betfair.; he will be at his best. If the upset is to come, look at Gunnevera or even Tom’s d’Etat, who will not receive a lot of support and will be a juicy price (40/1 in ante-post betting with Ladbrokes. )
