Tevin Farmer vs Jono Carroll Odds, Tips & Top Bets to Back
Rising 130-pound star Tevin Farmer welcomes undefeated Irish contender Jono Carroll in a stirring junior lightweight title battle between two tough-talking southpaws who just really don’t seem to like each other.
Famer-Carroll takes place on Friday, March 15, at the Liacouras Center in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. The bout will be streamed live on DAZN starting at 9 pm ET.
Farmer-Carroll Betting Tips
The war of words between Farmer and Carroll has been brewing for a while now. Even when Carroll failed to win his eliminator bout against rugged Frenchman Guillaume Frenois, Farmer was still adamant about facing the Irishmen for his next title defense.
Both fighters come from rugged backgrounds. In fact, much of the friction between the two revolves around which one of them had it worse growing up. That’s not really anything new in boxing. The sport has always served as a life raft of sorts for people coming out of impoverished conditions.
But what is a relative novelty is how each man’s boxing career started with a whimper but has gone to produce an unexpected bang.
For example, Farmer (28-4-1, 6 KOs) lost his professional debut by knockout and was the victor in only four of his first eight fights. It’s not common for someone in that position to end up winning a world title, much less be on the cusp of entering pound-for-pound lists.
Carroll (16-0-1, 3 KOs) started boxing in Australia almost by accident. After doing some sparring in the gym, he ended up turning professional at the request of his coach before heading back home to shockingly win the Prizefighter 33 tournament in 2014.
Now, Carroll, 26, heads across the pond to take on Farmer, 28, in the latter’s hometown. It’s a case of one underdog versus another, each born thousands of miles away from each other but living somewhat mirrored lives.
Farmer-Carroll Best Bets
Farmer is a better athlete who would probably be able to carry the day on hand-speed alone. But the crafty southpaw knows how to move arund the ring, and his tough start in the sport seems to have paid off huge dividends. Farmer is one of the best all-around fighters in boxing.
For fans of boxing betting, backing Farmer at -1000, with Karamba, is the most obvious bet to make on the fight. While Carroll has carved out a nice career, he seems more like a regional-level talent than he does someone truly capable of competing at the world level.
Farmer is faster than Carroll. He’s a better combination puncher, and he probably has better footwork, too. But Carroll is tough, and more important, he’s a well-schooled fighter who shouldn’t be completely overwhelmed by the probable talent gap.
So, while Farmer by KO, TKO or DQ might be tempting at +240, the better bet is Farmer on points at -240 with 888Sport. Farmer isn’t a knockout artist, and since both fighters are southpaws their fight will probably be sloppy with lots of unintentional headbutts, holding and less-than-expected punch outputs.
