Suicide Squad Slot in the Works at Playtech

Not content with its successful online video slots based on various Marvel comic characters, long-standing developer Playtech has teamed up with Warner Bros to adapt its various DC Comics franchises to the world of online gambling. One of the first new games to emerge from this exclusive deal is a slot based on the explosive Will Smith-led super villain ensemble, Suicide Squad.

Who are the Suicide Squad?

The Suicide Squad, occasionally referred to as Task Force X, are a rag-tag bunch of DC Comic villains, who were rounded up and sent on dangerous missions no one else would touch. The team’s nickname comes from the fact that they were all completely expendable.

With such an approach, the Suicide Squad has had a revolving door roster since it first appeared in 1959, including fan favourite villains such as the Penguin, Captain Cold, Poison Ivy and Black Adam.

The first film adaptation featured Joker’s girlfriend Harley Quinn, crack assassin Deadshot, the mutated Killer Croc, army man Rick Flag, pyromaniac Diablo, Captain Boomerang and Japanese mercenary Katana.

The game based on the film is due for release some time in 2017. To mark the new title, Playtech showed off some of the film’s original costumes at this year’s ICE show, worn by the likes of Margot Robbie, Will Smith and Jared Leto.

What Other DC Comic Titles Will Playtech Tackle?

The ongoing deal is due to run for several years and Playtech’s CEO, Mor Weizer, spoke enthusiastically about what might lie beyond Suicide Squad:

"This is a hugely significant deal for Playtech and we’re delighted to have a wider-reaching exclusive DC film and TV-branded content licensing agreement with Warner Bros Consumer Products. We’ve had phenomenal feedback from our licensees based on the high quality and calibre of the DC-branded games we rolled out in 2016."

This would cover the upcoming Avengers-esque team up Justice League, featuring Batman, Superman, Wonder Woman, Aquaman, the Flash and Cyborg, as well as all of the solo films based on these characters. If the deal is extended, it could also include the sequel to the Suicide Squad, which Warner Bros is rumoured to be courting Mel Gibson to direct.

Weizer also mentions TV properties, which could lead to online slots based on the popular Arrowverse connected TV shows, which includes Arrow, The Flash, DC Legends of Tomorrow and most recently Supergirl starring Melissa Benoit.

Arrow featured an episode based around the Suicide Squad, which also featured Deadshot, but included older characters like Bronze Tiger and Shrapnel. Pam Lifford, President of Warner Bros Consumer Products, echoed Weizer’s delight for the deal by saying:

"We’re excited to grow our DC-branded offerings with Playtech and showcase many of DC’s iconic Super Heroes in these immersive, action-packed games."

DC Super Heroes Jackpot

The Suicide Squad online video slot will also be part of Playtech’s progressive jackpot system, known as the DC Super Heroes Jackpot. There are four jackpot tiers – Mini, Minor, Major and Grand – with 0.99% of each bet going towards the accumulative cash pot. The minimum pay out for the smallest jackpot (the Mini) is £100, while the starting seed prize for the Grand jackpot is £200,000.

The games that are already part of the DC Super Heroes Jackpot system include the 3 Superman-themed slots recently released titled Man of Steel, Superman the Movie, Superman II as well as the various classic TV Batman slots set to be released in 2017 such as Batman & Catwoman Cash and Batman & Mr Freeze Fortune.

The jackpot bonus game is triggered at random, so as long as players are on one of the DC Super Heroes Jackpot machines, they have a chance of winning. Once the jackpot game begins, players are guaranteed a win, but how much depends on how lucky they are during the bonus round. Players are presented with 20 hexagonal cells, each of which hides one of four different coloured energy orbs – green, blue, yellow, and red.

The colours correspond to the four types of jackpot and players have 30 seconds to click through them until they have enough to win one of the four jackpots. The Mini jackpot requires two green orbs, while the Minor jackpot needs three blue ones. To win the Major jackpot players must reveal four yellow energy orbs and to go home with the Grand prize, all five of the red orbs must be unearthed.

With more DC Comics characters to be introduced to the world of online slots in the future, the future looks Green Lantern bright for Playtech and Warner Bros. Check out a topnotch Playtech-partnered casino like Coral today to see all these heroic titles for yourself!
