Breaking Down the 888poker XL Blizzard Tournament Results

888poker’s XL Blizzard series finale was on January 28, and what a tournament it was. It had been running since January 18, and the online festival not only proved popular with seasoned grinders, but with newbies and casual players too. Thanks to a three-tier structure and low stakes, MTT fans were able to buy-in at a level that suited their experience with just as much action and excitement as the high rollers!

What to Know About XL Blizzard

In what’s now become something of a trend in the online poker world, the tournament team at 888 HQ made it a priority to create a schedule that worked at all levels. The XL Blizzard lobby was divided into three categories: $5 to $44 buy-ins, $55 to $109 buy-ins and $150 to $2,100 buy-ins. This dynamic not only allowed 888poker to host 34 guaranteed prize pool events, but something to suit all bankrolls.

To add even more value to the series for all players, two promotions were also available. Anyone who could win two XL Blizzard tournaments would take home their prize money, plus an extra $1,000. Win three tournaments and an additional $10,000 was up for grabs. Stand victorious in four to receive $100,000 and complete the almost impossible by winning five and 888Poker had $1,000,000 to giveaway.

Alongside this impressive incentive scheme, 888poker made full use of its official partnership with the WSOP. For every tournament played during the online series, entrants earned points. When things came to a close, the top 50 advanced to the Champion of Champions showdown. In addition to a selection of tournament tickets worth $55-$1,050, this event was stuffed with 3 WSOP packages:

  1. 1st - $12,000 WSOP Vegas package
  2. 2nd - $3,000 Crazy 8 WSOP package plus $1,050 tournament ticket
  3. 3rd - $3,000 Crazy 8 WSOP package

A host of familiar screen names found their way into the money in individual events, as well as on to the Champion of Champions leader board. Here’s a snapshot from the earlier stages:

Day 1: Taking down one of the first major wins of the XL Blizzard 2018 was the Netherlands’ Jans ‘Graftekkel’ Arends.

Day 2: When events #3 and #4 came to a close, ‘Jamasutra’ and ‘Pasha 813’ both logged off for the evening with wins.

Day 3: During day three, former XL Eclipse winners ‘NeveGiveUp’ and ‘msksevart’ both added to their virtual trophy cabinet, while ‘Rekrutt1’ banked more than $10,000 for winning the Crazy 8 Event #6.

Day 4: Despite three 888poker Ambassadors running deep in The Whale, it was ‘23NoraB’ who stole the day’s headlines by cruising to victory in Event #9 the $120,000 Mega Deep.

Day 5: On day five it was Russian players who showed their poker prowess, with ‘DeltaSpider’ eventually securing their first win and the fourth for his country.

Day 6: Popular online player Parker ‘Tonkaaaa’ Talbot made the final table of the $250K High Roller, but it was ‘SteveyBG’ who managed to take the title after a close-fought contest.

888 Offering an Easy to the 2018 WSOP

If you didn’t manage to get online before January 28 and compete in the final MTTs, there’ll be plenty more chances to win your way to the WSOP with 888poker. Being the only official feeder site for the summer series alongside, 888poker will be offering a myriad of ways for you to play in Las Vegas.

As has been the case in previous years, the operator will be giving away a variety of packages. For some, a $3,000 package that provides entry to a WSOP side event as well as cash for travel and accommodation can be had. At the top of the shop, the $12,000 WSOP Vegas star prize will see winners compete in the famous Main Event.

As well as covering the $10,000 entrance fee, 888poker will give all qualifiers a place to stay, cash to cover flights and a few bucks to spend while they’re in Sin City. What’s more, anyone who joins Team 888poker in Vegas will get to enjoy some typically extravagant hospitality courtesy of the online poker site.
