The newly opened Sheffield branch of Genting Casino has produced one of its first major poker tournament winners this week, with relative newcomer Hasmukh Khodiyara scooping a fantastic £50,000 prize.
Khodiyara’s win came in the UK Genting Poker Series (GPS) tournament, with the young pro beating off competition from 568 participants in the three-day event. The number of participants is the second largest turnout in the history of the GPS, making the win even more impressive. The £50,000 poker tournament prize is Khodiyara's second big finish of the year, following a £62,500 fifth-placed finish at the Nottingham edition of the UK and Ireland Poker Tour.
After three days of tense play, nine players took their place at the final table, with Khodiyara sitting in third place in terms of chips. A slow but steady build-up strategy from the young player paid off as he survived to go heads-up against tournament chip leader Stephen McGrath, favourite with close to 8 million chips.
An exciting final hand of Q 10 of clubs for McGrath and A J of hearts for Khodiyara somewhat petered out though, with Khodiyara scooping the poker tournament prize with ace high. The GPS now heads down to London for its final event of the year, a tournament carrying a £200,000 guaranteed prize pool.
Khodiyara cut his poker teeth online, building his skills in preparation for a successful launch into the bigger live poker tournaments. Genting Casino has a great online poker platform, giving plucky players the chance to practice their poker before attempting to make the big time. You can play online with Genting for the chance to win free entry into the final leg of the GPS, giving you the opportunity to win fantastic cash prizes.
