James 'Andy McLEOD' Obst Wins Super Tuesday Title

Last week Australia’s James Obst, better known as his online moniker 'Andy McLEOD', proved his poker prowess by winning the Super Tuesday No-Limit Hold’em title along with a cool $109,809.

Obst is a familiar name in the world of poker and has numerous tournaments and championship titles under his belt, including a World Championship of Online Poker title, two Spring Championship of Online Poker titles, and one from the 2014 Turbo Championship of Online Poker. This last win made him only the second player to win all three events, joining Shawn 'buck21' Buchanan in what is dubbed the 'Triple Coop Club'.

The talented poker pro was one of 585 players, making the prize pot an impressive $585,000. Halfway through the tournament, only 72 players were left in the fold, with well-known online names like R shetty, Thiago "XTheDecanoX" Nishijima, and Eisenhower1 leading the pack. During the next couple of tense hours, players began to drop like flies, cashing out during the stretch towards the final table. By the time there were only 18 players remaining, Israel’s VIVILINE1 was leading the charge with a chip count of over $340,000. However, when the remaining nine made it to the final table, VIVILINE1 had been well overtaken by Brazil’s Nishijima, holding $802,411. Surprisingly, Obst had a middling $287,472 by the time the first hand on the table was dealt.

Yet Obst managed to hold in there, knocking out YRWTHMELTHR with a pair of Queens against a pair of twos. Ten minutes later, the Australian then took on VIVILINE1, knocking him out with three of a kind, while he again was holding Queens.

The final five battled through the 10 hour mark, but a few hands later they were whittled down to just two; Obst and Mexico’s StrungOut1 began to duel. It was a tense finale, with Obst having to go all in with a pair of fives, which not only saw him avoid elimination but also take the lead with a $1.7 million chip pile. Towards the end of the 11.5 hour stretch, Obst had managed to widen the gap, holding $2.5 million in chips. In a last gasp, StrungOut1 went all in with the Ace of Spades and four of Hearts, but Obst defeated it with a pair of Jacks, claiming both the title and the cash prize.
