Each off season, football clubs all over the world work on securing lucrative sponsorships and partnerships to provide their clubs the resources they need to succeed. Major bookmakers and casinos are notorious for securing some of the top clubs ensuring their brand is seen and connected with the club in a myriad of promotions and advertisements.
Betfair, the popular online betting exchange, announced they've inked a three-season partnership with FC Barcelona, Spain's reigning La Liga champion. The deal, which started 1 July, provides the bookmaker with extensive image rights for advertising as well as branding on the famous Camp Nou Stadium. The club's digital channels will also feature Betfair sponsorship.
While Betfair was locking up Spain's top club, Betway went for quantity over quality in terms of football club sponsorship by signing deals with five different Bundesliga 2 clubs. Instead of grabbing a big name club like Betfair, Betway snagged up a bunch of Germany's second tier teams spreading the brand all across the league.
The 2016 season for FC Barcelona was one of ups and downs. Despite underwhelming in the major domestic and international tournaments, Barca was able to secure the La Liga title by edging rival Real Madrid by one point. Spain's champions have spent the offseason meeting with suiters looking to secure the club's betting partnership.
The popular online betting exchange Betfair emerged as the top contender and announced last week they were able to ink a three season deal with the club. The deal includes the bookie's sponsorship on Camp Nou Stadium's LED advertising boards as well as access to the club's players for marketing. Betfair advertising will also be featured on Barcelona's digital channels.
Announcing the deal that kicked off 1st July, Manel Arroyo, Barcelona’s VP of Marketing and Communication revealed the club and bookmaker will work together to provide fans and punters with exclusive deals and promotions:
"Barcelona is delighted to sign a long-term collaboration agreement with Betfair, a prominent leading company in the field of sports betting. We hope our members and all football lovers will enjoy this new global partnership, as well as exclusive promotions and unique sporting experiences."
Not every bookie can secure a top club's betting partnership like Betfair was fortunate to do. Betway has been able to secure the sponsorship of the Premier League's West Ham but the online bookie understands there's more they can get from the football sponsorship market. Instead of browsing the top leagues like they did with West Ham, Betway turned to Germany's second division, Bundesliga 2.
Looking to maximize their exposure within the league, Betway secured partnerships with not just one team but five different clubs in Bundesliga 2: St. Pauli, Union Berlin, Eintracht Braunschweig, Karlsruher SC and Dyanmo Dresden. Speaking to the media about the five team deal, Anthony Werkman, Betway's Director of Marketing and Operations, explained:
"Betway has always had football coursing through its veins, and we’ve been thrilled to be the official sponsor of West Ham United amid an historic period of success and growth for the club. We look forward to supporting the five Bundesliga 2 clubs as they embark on a new season, with the glory of promotion to the top tier on offer."
Like Betfair, Betway secured three-year deals with all the clubs that provide stadium sponsorship for Betway at each teams' stadium. Betway will also be the teams' official betting partners so exclusive promotions will also be offered through the online bookie.
