It is not a fun time for the Oakland Raiders. They’re 1-4 and are feeling as low as they have all season. See, when Oakland started 0-3, it still felt good about itself because it led for most of every game.
The Raiders were far from great in those games and they ended up blowing each game rather spectacularly, but they fight. Then, two weeks ago, Oakland had a dramatic, classic comeback over Cleveland to win a 45-42 overtime thriller.
Oakland’s offense was electric in that game. So, with an easy portion of the schedule coming up, Jon Gruden and his troops were really feeling pretty decently about themselves. This week, not so much.
The Los Angles Chargers punched Oakland in the mouth in Week 5 in a 26-10 win. The game wasn’t that close. The Chargers were, by far, the superior team. So, now, the Raiders are just a dumpy 1-4 team. There’s not a lot to like about the Raiders at the moment.
In fact, there is a lot not to like.
Oakland quarterback Derek Carr has thrown a league-high eight interceptions and a league-high five interceptions on first down. Fifteen percent of his 52 career interceptions have come under Gruden, who was hired to take Carr to the next level.
This is not good. Running back Marshawn Lynch had just 31 yards on the ground and top receiver Amari Cooper put on is disappearing act again with one catch for 10 yards again the Chargers. Defensively? Well, the Raiders are a mess defensively. The Chargers gained 16 or more yards on 10 of their 59 plays Sunday.
Oakland has allowed 149 points in five games, which is the third most in team history and the most since 1962 through five games. Want more? Oakland is averaging 7.0 yards per play. That is on pace to be the worst in the NFL since the 1970 merger.
So, yeah, things aren’t great in Oakland as it heads to London to play Seattle this week.
Things are pretty average for the Seahawks. Not much was expected from them this season after a long run of success. This team is rebuilding. It’s probably not as bad as some people think. The Seahawks are 2-3 and gave the undefeated Rams everything they could handle in Week 5.
Seattle quarterback Russell Wilson is still good, but he doesn’t have a lot around him and the Seattle defense is more room than boom these days.
Oakland has injury worries with standout right guard Kelechi Osemele. A knee injury kept him out of Week 5. He did not practice Wednesday. Jon Gruden said he will be questionable to play against the Seahawks.
Here are some things for NFL betting fans to consider in this matchup:
It not much difference travelling to London from Seattle or from the Bay Area. Both teams planned to arrive in England later in the practice week. This game may come down to which team is more properly rested.
But in a toss-up game, I’m going with the team that feels a little better about itself and that’s the Seahawks, who nearly knocked off the Rams in Week 5. Bet Seattle -1 with Karamba.
The Raiders are averaging 29.9 points a game and the Seahawks are averaging 23 points a game. And Seattle is allowing almost 23 points a game. Oakland has the ability to score. So, I this once these two teams get comfortable in Wembley Stadium, they can surpass 48 points comfortably. Bet over 48 with 888Sport.
I expect a slow start because of the time adjustments for both teams. Plus, the Raiders have been pretty good in the first half this season. I like the parlay of the Raiders to win the first half and under 23.5 points with 888Sport.
