Can England Win The 2019 Women's World Cup? Betting Odds & Tips
- England to win the Women’s World Cup at 7/1 with 888Sport
- Ellen White to win the Golden Boot at 25/1 with Paddy Power
The 2018/19 FA Women’s Super League season is officially over, and attentions have now very quickly turned to the 2019 FIFA Women’s World Cup in France.
Phil Neville’s England side are one of the favourites in the Football Betting to finally bring it home next month, but they must first navigate a potentially tricky Group D, which includes rivals Scotland and 2015 finalists Japan, with no guarantee of a top spot which would provide a simpler route July's final in Lyon.
England To Top Their Group?
Finishing top of their group would see England face one of the best four third-place sides in the second route, with potentially Norway or an underperforming Brazil side the worst they could face in the quarter-finals.
Winning the group though would likely put England in the same half of the draw as hosts France and holders USA, with a potentially mouth-watering semi-final at stake should the Lionesses progress all the way to the final week.
Coming second, a distinct possibility in such a tough group, leaves a much tougher route. England would face likely either Canada, who recently beat Neville’s side in a friendly, or European champions Netherlands who knocked the Lionesses out in the Euro’s two years ago.
Even if Neville navigates his side through the second round, a highly-rated Australia side would likely lie in wait before a potential match up with Germany in the semi-finals.
Qualifying as one of the best third-placed teams would almost certainly mean a second round tie against either Germany or France, a prospect England wouldn’t want to face at such an early stage in the tournament.
The Lionesses A Mix Of Youth And Experience
England’s chances of success in France hang in the balance. The team is dripped with talent from back to front. Lucy Bronze is widely regarded as one of the best defenders in the world and will sit alongside captain Steph Houghton in Phil Neville’s first choice back four.
There’s an array of talent up front in the shape of new Lyon star Nikita Parris, Manchester City’s new signing Ellen White, breakout star Beth Mead, Barcelona’s Toni Duggan, Chelsea’s Fran Kirby and Euro 2017 golden boot winner Jodie Taylor.
Mixing experience with eight new players who have never experienced a major tournament, Neville’s side have every chance if they hit top gear but are yet to convince in many of the warm-up games leading up to the tournament, despite winning the SheBelieves Cup in March.
The main threat will likely come from Japan, who knocked them out in the semi-finals four years ago. Asako Takakura’s side made the final in 2015 and won the tournament back in 2011 and it would be unwise for England to underestimate them with second place in the group facing such a tough run to the final.
Group rivals Japan are priced at 16/1 with Ladbrokes to repeat the feat of 2011 while USA are the favourites with BetHard at 7/2 to win the tournament for a second time in a row.
England are odds on favourite to win Group D ahead of Japan, Scotland and rank outsiders Argentina, with the majority giving England at quite short to come through in top spot, while others such as William Hill are as short as 4/7 on the Lionesses topping the group.

Who Will Win The Player Of The Tournament And The Golden Boot?
Several Lionesses feature highly in the odds for both player of the tournament and the golden boot winner. Current USA star Alex Morgan is one of the favourites for both, but Barcelona’s Toni Duggan is shortest in the odds for player of the tournament with William Hill offering 20/1 to take home the individual honours.
Morgan is also joint favourite for the golden boot alongside Lyon and France forward Eugenie Le Sommer, though the prospect of either Australia’s in-form Sam Kerr or FA WSL record-breaker Vivianne Miedema, both at 8/1 with Ladbrokes, seems like a better bet given the form of the two players in question.
Ellen White is best priced at 25/1 with Paddy Power to win the golden boot, the forward has been in good form for England, most recently scoring in the 2-1 win against Spain last month and might have an outside shout.
Nikita Parris, second only to Miedema in the FA WSL golden boot race this season is 16/1 with Ladbrokes, while Beth Mead, Fran Kirby and Euro 2017 golden boot winner Jodie Taylor are all priced at 20/1 with Paddy Power .
Several bookmakers also have markets open on who will be the Lionesses’ top scorer during the tournament.
