Both England and Australia have been leagues ahead of the competition thus far in the Rugby League World Cup, so it’s only fitting that they meet in the 2018 Final for what promises to be a gripping face-off. Australia enter the final as the clear favourites among the top rugby betting sites.
But this England side has shown enough resilience and strength during the tournament to carry that momentum forward and really push the Aussies for every last try. Check out our betting preview to see which team might be worth a wager, and what rugby league betting markets might make you a mint!
Australia enter the final with a clear home advantage, as the match taking place in the sunny city of Brisbane. The visitors have been bouncing around like hobbits from Australia to New Zealand and back again, and this could take a toll on the England team, regardless of how much passion is pushing them.
William Hill clearly think the Australians have it done and dusted, offering odds of 1/7 if they win. However, if you want to put a patriotic punt on, the bookmaker is giving odds of 5/1, which offers a decent margin for making some money.
This is an England side that has shown a solid defence recently, with fullback Gareth Widdop managing to create ample opportunities. If they can make the most of every opening, then England could still win. There is also the third, unlikely option of a draw. However, at 25/1 at William Hill, it could be interesting, even for a small bet.
With Australia favourite to win at 1/7, there’s not a lot of money to be made betting on that result alone. Picking a winning margin dramatically increases the odds, but how much is Australia likely to beat England by? William Hill has the shortest odds between 16-20, with odds of 5/1.
Going up or down a level, choosing a difference of between 11-15 or 21-25 offers a slight increase at 6/1. If England manage to keep Australia at bay so that they’re forced into a narrow victory of between one and five points, the odds are sitting at a very attractive 8/1.
Those pinning their hopes on an England victory could come up smelling of roses if they can guess the right winning margin. Even with the smallest of triumphs between 1-5 points, William Hill is giving odds of 12/1. They only increase from there up to the astronomical odds of over 100/1 for 21-25 and above.
Double results are possibly the best way to increase the winning bet, but it does mean you need to pick what the state of play will be at half-time. If Australia are to lead England for the full game, both at half-time and at full-time, it increases the odds from William Hill from 1/7 to 2/7.
However, England’s stalwart defence usually stands firm until tiredness kicks in around the 60- or 70-minute mark, so they could potentially hold the Aussies at bay until half-time. The bookmaker has attractive odds of 16/1 for a Draw/Australia double result.
Those who think that England could potentially snatch an early lead, only to have it wrestled from their hands in the second half could place a bet with smart odds of 7/1. If England were to hold on to both the rugby ball and the lead by the end of both half-time and full-time, William Hill is willing to offer 10/1.
This is much more likely than England recovering from a loss at half-time to be crowned champions of the Rugby League World Cup. If this unlikely scenario did come to pass (which England better hope is not the case by any means), the odds would jump to an eye-popping 20/1 at William Hill.
Rather than the Double Result bets, if you just fancy a punt that England will be leading the game by half-time, without having to guess who’ll win, William Hill is currently offering odds of up to 5/1. It’s worth noting that this was previously 4/1, which makes it a little bit more enticing.
There’s also an enhanced bet available at the bookmaker that’ll give 8/1 if both teams manage to score 20 points or more. This might seem unlikely given their most recent results against one another, but in 2016 both teams hit this target in three out of four meetings, so it’s not unthinkable.
If you think you can decide which of these two teams is going to take home the Rugby World Cup, and by how many points, head on over to William Hill today. If you join now, William Hill is offering a generous free bet (Terms and Conditions apply, 18+ only)!
