David Mullins' Cheltenham Festival Day Three Tips

It's already time for day 3 at the Cheltenham Festival and David Mullins, a multiple Grade 1 winning jockey, uses all his experience to guide you through Thursday with his race by race guide across biggest week in the National Hunt racing calendar. It's all about superstar novice chaser Envoi Allen today whilst the feature is the Stayers Hurdle and the grand old Paisley Park aiming to regain his old crown.

Marsh Novices' Chase 1.20pm - Envoi Allen

A very straight forward start to the day here and it's nearly impossible to see Envoi Allen beaten.

I don't think anything in this is up to his level and he should take the world of beating. I just can't wait to see him take on Monkfish next season, that'll be some battle if it happens!

Pertemps Network Final Handicap Hurdle 1.55pm - Copperhead

The Pertemps is always a cracking handicap at Cheltenham and this year's renewal has not disappointed. Colin Tizzard has his horses back firing again and Copperhead looks a big price as a result.

The top of the market is full of potentially very talented horses, but they are short enough really and Copperhead is a talented horse who might just be well handicapped as a result of the stables poor form. This is a horse who went off 6/1 in last season's RSA Chase, so 33/1 in a Pertemps with excuses for his poor recent runs could be too big.

Ryanair Chase 2.30pm - Melon

This race has me absolutely baffled, it looks like the type of race that you could run 10 times and get 10 different results.

I can picture 5 horses coming to the last beside each other and I'd say Paul Townend didn't rush into his decision as there is not much between Willie's. I do understand why he went with Min, it's hard to get off a horse who has done it for you before. Saying that, I would've picked Melon I think as he could just get away from them and if I was pushed for a selection I would opt for him.

Stayers' Hurdle 3.05pm - Sire Du Berlais

Cheltenham Festival form is worth its weight in gold and Sire Du Berlais can make it 3 wins in 3 festivals in the Stayers Hurdle.

He has been brilliant in the last two Pertemps hurdles and arguably that form from last year might have been good enough to win a Stayers Hurdle. This season he was very good on his first start and last time you have to forgive him that as Gordon's just weren't firing. He has to go very close.

Festival Plate Handicap Chase 3.40pm - Fils D'oudairies

As competitive a handicap as you expect at Cheltenham, but Fils D'oudairies is a lovely horse who might still be improving.

He has produced some big runs, such as when chasing home Envoi Allen and he fell when still going well enough behind Colreevy, who is a really talented mare. He looks like he is still learning and a mark of 145 could just underestimate him.

Mares' Novices' Hurdle 4.15pm - Skyace

Skyace has been a fairytale story for her owners having been bought for a pittance and she can win again on Thursday.

She has gone off a big price in every race she has run in so far, but she also has won a lot of them. In my opinion she carries in the strongest form, has the best experience and I'd be delighted for Shark Hanlon if he could win this. She looks a big price again to me with the bookmakers.

Back Skyace at 12/1 with Boyles

Kim Muir Challenge Cup Handicap Chase 4.50pm - Townshend

The Kim Muir is usually a hard handicap to figure out, but without amateurs this season it's even tougher! I always had a soft spot for Townshend when he was with Willie and he looks a huge price in this.

In a previous life I once rode Townshend to finish 6th in a Kerry National off an Irish mark of 140, he could go very well here for Nigel Twiston-Davies off 132 with a 10 pound claimer on board. He gets in here very lightly and 66/1 might just to be too big.
