One of the richest festivals in racing gets underway on 20 June when the runners and riders take their positions for the start of Royal Ascot 2017. As ever, punters will be dressed to impress as the world's top trainers look to steal the limelight with their prized thoroughbreds.
Picking a winner from the wealth of talent on display at Ascot racecourse is never easy, but in this betting preview you’ll find a guide to some of the notable frontrunners. Not always the favourites, each one instead has plenty of value – a good tip regardless of your betting strategy!
Indeed, the key to a successful horse racing betting strategy is to look for the runners that standout from the crowd. Whether that's down to results in a previous race or because the bookmakers are underestimating the odds, your job is to pick the horses that have something about them.
So without further ado, read on for the top day-by-day bets at this year’s Royal Ascot. While, as ever, horse racing is a bit of a lottery, there's certainly some potential value if you fancy backing these beauties. Plus, all the top betting sites are running generous free bet promotions to draw in punters so players come first all week!
Day 1 - Tuesday, 20th June | The odds at NetBet are locked on Ribchester as the favourite for the opening race at the Royal Meeting. But if you're looking for a top prospect outside of the 8/11 favourite, Lightning Spear has shown a lot of promise.
Finishing close behind Ribchester in a recent Group 1 at Newbury, the six-year-old has been rested for this race and could push the pace. Indeed, if Ribchester is off form or makes a mistake, look to Lightning Spear to steal the opening act at Ascot.
Day 2 - Wednesday, 21st June | With Mi Dar out of the running, it's hard to see past bet365's 11/4 favourite Jack Hobbs in this one. With a win rate of 44.44% thanks to four wins and four places from nine races, Hobbs clearly has the pedigree to lead this one and stay on top throughout.
Day 3 - Thursday, 22nd June | The favourite, Order of St George, looks set to dominate in the big race at Royal Ascot 2017. Currently even money with a wealth of UK bookies, this Aidan O'Brien-trained horse will benefit from a comparatively weak field going in the race. Even with a subpar performance, this five-year-old is still a notch above his rivals – a recent win at Leopardstown as the favourite proved it.
Day 4 - Friday, 23rd June | If you're looking for a longshot during Royal Ascot, 888sport has Dabyah at 8/1. As well as finishing third in the Group 1 Prix Marcel Boussac, this horse has beaten Urban in a previous run and certainly has the legs to be amongst it at Ascot. Additionally, for an each way tip in this race, Daban at 10/1 has impressed at Newmarket and could be in with a shout.
Day 5 - Saturday, 24th June | The final horse racing tip for Royal Ascot 2017 is The Tin Man at 15/2 with NetBet. Although James Fanshawe's horse can sometimes be too keen in larger fields, The Tin Man has performed well in some tough races.
Speed certainly isn't an issue and, if the track is running fast, conditions will be perfect for a late break. However, if Fanshawe's horse can't find some space to power through at the last, the 4/1 favourite Limato looks to be a solid choice.
Naturally, with Royal Ascot as a highlight of the horse racing calendar, many of the top online betting sites are offering specials. One of the more intriguing is 888sport's Top Trainer market. Aidan O'Brien is currently the runaway favourite at 1/4, but spare a thought for Wesley Ward.
The American trainer has some big names in his stable, with the likes of Lady Aurelia and Bound For Nowhere ranked highly in their respective races. Although he can't match O'Brien in terms of past performances at Royal Ascot, his nine runners will be strong throughout.
While a bet on the retired jockey is certainly a punt, 25/1 odds seem too attractive to ignore. This Royal Ascot bet is one that could pay off handsomely come the closing ceremony on 24 June. For all your Royal Ascot betting needs in 2017, signup for a new account at 888sport!
