Juventus vs SPAL Betting: Mandzukic Goal Looks Like Value

Quick Tips:

Italy’s Serie A returns this weekend after the pause for international duty and Juventus will be hoping the break did not halt their progress towards another league title. Having already won the Scudetto in each of the last seven seasons, the Bianconeri currently enjoy a six-point lead at the top this term and will be looking to extend that gap against SPAL on Saturday afternoon.

Playing before their rivals is a huge advantage for Juve and it is one that Max Allegri is determined to take advantage of:

“The team is in good shape, we are top of the table, but now there are nine games to go before the Winter break – seven in Serie A and two in the Champions League – against difficult teams. We have to prepare in the best way possible with the calm we’ve shown thus far. It’s a big season and we must set the scene so that we’re still in the running for all our targets come March.”

They will do so against a SPAL side that – despite currently sitting 15th – have already caused some impressive upsets this season. Wins over AS Roma and Atalanta certainly grabbed attention, but boss Leonardo Simplici is certainly not getting carried away, as he explained in a recent press conference.

“We need to improve in defence and above all on dead ball situations,” the Coach told reporters last week. “This is our second season in Serie A and we must keep our feet on the ground. After the win away to Roma, we got ahead of ourselves and lost badly at home with Frosinone, so we’ve got to keep our eyes on the objective.”

Form Suggests Juve Will Maintain Imperious Home Record

Doing so will be extremely difficult, and it is tough to see this match ending in anything but another victory for a Bianconeri side who have won 35 of their last 40 league games at Juventus Stadium. Their record against SPAL is arguably even more impressive, losing just once in 34 meetings with the Ferrara-based club, their only defeat coming way back in 1957.

Last season saw these two clubs go head-to-head for the first time in 44 years and Juve were held to a surprising 0-0 draw back in March. They won convincingly at home however (4-1) and it is hard to imagine any other outcome, making Karamba’s odds of 2/15 on a Juventus win wholly unsurprising.

Bank On Goals… Lots Of Goals!

This season, SPAL have lost all seven games in which they have trailed, while Juventus join French giants Paris Saint-Germain as the only side in Europe’s top five leagues to have taken the lead in every match they’ve played in 2018/19.

Furthermore, SPAL’s defensive record is terrible, Simplici’s men conceding at least two goals in seven of their last eight Serie A outings and there have been over 2.5 goals scored in five of SPAL's last six games).

At the same time, Juve have found the back of the net at least twice in 12 of their last 13 league games, meaning a high number of goals are to be expected here. With that in mind, it is well worth considering the over 2.5 goals market for this clash, available at 13/25 with 888Sport or even over 3.5 goals, available at 7/5 with the same bookmaker.

Mario Mandzukic To Deliver Again

While Cristiano Ronaldo and Paulo Dybala have been grabbing the headlines, Mario Mandzukic has quietly established himself as a vital player in the current Juve system. Swapping roles with the Portuguese megastar, his flexibility to move out wide on the left when CR7 comes centrally has been a major feature for the Bianconeri.

The Croatian has done much more than just facilitate for his famous new team-mate however, weighing in with five goals and two assists himself already. Backing him to continue that hot streak is well worth consideration, as his trademark dominance in the air might well pay off on Saturday evening.

As a result, backing Mandzukic to score the first goal against SPAL seems a worthwhile option and is available at 7/2 with Ladbrokes, while the 32-year-old is offered at 5/6 to score at any time.
