Many sites provide NFL power rankings. These are generally comprised of a particular writer's opinion, maybe some insider knowledge or some unknown algorithm.
But at Gambling.com, we like to keep things simple.
We’re interested in betting, and that’s why our NFL power rankings are based on a compilation of odds from the top sportsbooks in the business.
Who do the bookies back to take home Lombardi at the end of the season? How do Super Bowl favourites shift based on each week’s big games?
We’ll break that down right here every week while giving bettors a firsthand look at which site gives their NFL picks the best odds.
Without further ado, here’s the only list NFL betting fans should need when predicting who might finish this season with a Super Bowl parade.
|Team||Power Ranking||888sport Odds||Karamba Odds||Betfair Odds||Ladbrokes Odds||Betway Odds|
|New England Patriots||1||+600||+600||6/1||21/4||+550|
|Green Bay Packers||6||+1200||+1400||12/1||11/1||+1200|
|New Orleans Saints||8||+1800||+1400||18/1||+18/1||+2000|
|Kansas City Chiefs||10||+2200||+2000||20/1||22/1||+2000|
|San Francisco 49ers||15||+3300||+2800||33/1||33/1||+3300|
|Tampa Bay Buccaneers||25||+7000||+8000||80/1||40/1||+6600|
While there's some general consensus from most fans and writers on which teams should be at the top of the list, there's some interesting debates to be had lower down.
The New Orleans Saints, for example, remain in the upper echelon of action despite giving up 529 total yards against Ryan Fitzpatrick and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in Week 1. We won't be able to tell until the end of the season whether this was a statement by a record-strong Bucs' offense or an extremely poor Saints defense.
For now, we'll stick to a little bit of both, and even then there's definitely cause for concern for the Saints particularly in the secondary.
Drew Brees is going to compete for division titles until the day he hangs up his cleats, but we saw a bit of the problem with projecting deep playoff runs for New Orleans in their NFC Divisional Round loss to Minnesota. Those question marks are only looming larger after Sunday.
On the flip-side the Kansas City Chiefs looked really dangerous in their 38-28 victory in LA. Tyreek Hill put the Chargers in his rearview mirror all afternoon and debut starter Patrick Mahomes II sizzled at quarterback with 256 yards passing and four touchdowns.
The Chargers and Phillip Rivers are no slouch, so this result is an impressive one for the Chiefs. They're clearly the best value bet to go all the way at 22/1 with Ladbrokes and worth a bet right now as we would envision their odds only getting shorter.
The biggest surprise of the entire weekend didn't arrive until Monday night in Detroit.
Highly touted rookie quarterback Sam Darnold opened his NFL career with a pick-six on his first ever pass attempt, and things looked familiarly bleak for the New York Jets.
Then something unprecedented happened. The Jets shook it off and rallied to absolutely destroy the Lions, rolling to a 48-17 win. By the fourth quarter the once raucous Ford Field was filled with audible chants of "J-E-T-S" as a result that most New York fans could hardly have dreamed of played out.
Darnold rebounded to complete 16 of 21 passes for 198 yards and two touchdowns, while Isaiah Crowell ran for 102 yards and two more scores. Not to be outdone, the Jets defense intercepted Matt Stafford 5 times, taking one to the house, and the special teams even scored a punt return touchdown by Andre Roberts.
Despite all the positivity generated by dominating a game in all facets against a team that won nine games last season, the Jets are still one of the longest shots to win it all.
To be clear, this is not a proclamation that the Jets will get back to the big game for the first time since Broadway Joe shocked the world, but we think at 30th Gang Green is ranked more than a little too low.
With some tremendously long odds (+10000 with Karamba among them) the Jets are an intriguing team to follow and bet on in a very weak division aside from the Patriots.
