Peterborough Chase Betting Tips: Weights Against God's Own

Peterborough Chase Betting Tips: Weights Against God's Own

Quick Tips

2016 winner Josses Hill bids for a second win in Sunday's Peterborough Chase, facing a field of nine, the betting headed by God's Own and Charbel.

The Grade 2 – known this year as the Edredon Bleu Chase - is December's highlight at Huntingdon, run over 2m4f and attracting Haldon Gold Cup winner God's Own and trainer Kim Bailey's rapidly-improving Charbel.

Peterborough Chase Trends

A key Peterborough Chase trend is betting: the top of the market has been a very useful guide, as one might imagine, with only two winners since 2002 outside the first three in the betting. That leaves only Charbel, God's Own and Tea For Two.

Applying the trip to the trends is interesting too – only two winners in that same period had not won a chase over 2m4f. At this point in the season, it will not surprise you to know that, nearly all previous winners had run before, and only three out of the last 16 were making their seasonal debut.

The exceptions to that trend were Al Ferof, who had won his three previous seasonal reappearances, including the 2012 Paddy Power Gold Cup at Cheltenham, and former Ryanair Chase winner Riverside Theatre, who had won all his previously season debuts, barring the 2012 King George - but then no horse has ever won the King George on their first start of the term.

This draws a line through Tea For Two, and also Josses Hill, who have been off for more than 200 days, and don't make a habit of winning first time out. That leaves Charbel and God's Own as the trends picks.

Best Bet In Peterborough Chase Odds

God’s Own (4/1 Coral) is the second favourite in the Peterborough Chase betting, having won the Haldon Gold Cup on his return off a mark of 156, an effort which suggests that he is just as good as ever at the age of 10.

He would very much appreciate the ground staying on the dryer side (his best form is on a sound surface), but his Celebration Chase third stacks up well. However, his Haldon Gold Cup win means he carries a 6lb penalty.

Charbel (9/4 Ladbrokes) clashed with Baron Alco at Chepstow before he won the BetVictor Gold Cup at Cheltenham, giving him 12lbs and a beating on his seasonal return, before an excellent effort to finish second in the Christy 1965 Chase.

He could not hold a candle to Politologue, who was impressive that day, but was 10 lengths clear of the rest of the field which included Hammersly Lake, and he is well treated at the weights once again, getting that 6lbs from God’s Own - despite being rated equal.

Peterborough Chase Each-Way Tip

Art Mauresque’s respectable handicap form does catch the eye. He took a big step forward from his debut - when well behind Charbel - to finish second at Ascot in a valuable handicap chase last month.

If you're looking for an each-way tip in the Peterborough Chase betting, Art Mauresque at 6/1 with Coral, who are paying three places, could be the one. Don't forget, his Ascot second was over 3m, a distance the eight-year-old has only tried three times, his latest effort being by far his best.
