The announcement of Prince Harry and Meghan's first pregnancy has not only caused headlines across the world, but has also presented plenty of betting markets concerning the forthcoming Royal Baby birth. The most popular royal market is the name of the baby. Bet365 Sports currently has Alice, Arthur, Diana, and Victoria as the joint-favourites.
Looking at the Royal Baby betting market in 2018, Alice is the general favourite, but all bookmakers are taking slightly different views. Diana is favourite with William Hill, BetVictor, Paddy Power and Betfair. Brits considering the newest Royal baby being named after the much-loved Princess as a touching prospect. It’s also a likely scenario for the name to be selected, given how much Prince Harry adored his late mother.
William Hill is currently offering Diana at 8/1 odds. That's closely followed by Alice at 12/1 odds, then James, Arthur and Victoria at 14/1, Elizabeth and Alexandra 16/1, Frances 18/1 and Alexander and Grace 20/1. The most notable longshot offered in the market is Tyrone at 500/1.
BetVictor then has Diana listed at 6/1 followed by James, Alice and Arthur at 12/1 and Phillip and Elizabeth at 14/1. Along with BetVictor, Paddy Power places Diana favourite at 8/1 odds, Alice and Arthur at 13/1, Grace at 14/1, Alexandra, Elizabeth, James, Victoria, and Edward at 16/1.
Most of these odds are based on past experiences with royal baby names and their heritage. The big difference with Prince Harry and Meghan's baby being that, unlike his brother's children, Harry's are highly unlikely to ever become King or Queen, which gives the couple more naming freedom.
With Prince Harry and Meghan's baby seventh in line to the throne, the usual list of traditional Windsor names, though listed in the betting, don't have to be paid as much attention as they might have been when betting on Kate Middleton's babies' names.
If you think the baby might be named after Harry’s brother then William is available at 80/1, while Doria, the name of Meghan's mother is on offer at 50/1 and the French Mathilde is 35/1. Given Meghan's African American heritage, Amalia is another option at 50/1. There are a range of other Paddy Power Royal Baby markets available as well.
Unsurprisingly, you can back the gender of the baby at 10/11 for both options, and depending on when you think the baby will be born, you can bet on various time windows at 9/2. If that is too specific for your bet, you can back an AM or PM birth at odds of 10/11 with BetVictor, while Coral are betting on what day of the week the royal baby will be born: it's 5/1 every day.
