Silver Cup Handicap Chase Betting Tips: 4/1 Present Is Gold

Quick Tips
Upon winning this race last year, Gold Present gave Frodon a 3-length beating into second, so its no surprise to see him favourite in the Silver Cup Handicap Chase betting again.
Third that fateful day was Walk In The Mill, fourth was O O Seven, fifth was Singlefarmpayment and sixth was Yala Enki. As you can see, that is one of the strongest form lines you will witness over this Festive period, with virtually every horse in that list going on to win major handicap chases this season.
It is the final chance to earn those Christmas riches, and the rather aptly named Gold Present is one many punters will be hoping can get this race wrapped up and delivered in time for the Christmas festivities.
Ascot Silver Cup Handicap Chase Details
The Listed Ascot Silver Cup is a handicap chase run over 3m at Ascot. First run in 1965, it is now worth £100,000, Gold Cup winners Arkle and Cool Dawn among its winners.
Many people claim the race lacks the same prestige that it used to have several decades ago, however it still carries a handsome that prize-pot with the winner scooping an impressive £57,000.
Silver Cup Favourite
Trained by Nicky Henderson, the favourite Gold Present (4/1 Coral) made a pleasing seasonal return in the Christy 1965 Chase at Ascot, finishing third behind Politologue and Charbel.
But it's that win in the Silver Cup last year that continues to shine, second Frodon winning this season's Old Roan Chase and Caspian Caviar Gold Cup, Walk In The Mill landing the Becher Chase over the Grand National Fences, and O O Seven and Yala Enki their only starts of the season.
If you believe Henderson is one of the Magi and has come to you bearing gifts, then you would be extremely wise in taking the 4/1 available now with Coral for Gold Present, as he is sure to shorten.

Leading Challengers
Full Glass (6/1 Ladbrokes) came a cropper last time out at Haydock, unseating Daryl Jacob on the afternoon Haydock decided to build some of the most rigid and testing fences in the country.
We will never know how he would have fared in that Graduation Chase, but he was considered good enough by his trainer Alan King to be entered in the Caspian Caviar Gold Cup at Cheltenham - though he was declared a non-runner on the day.
The ground not being soft enough was the reason cited by connections for not running, which is understandable given that Full Glass is a French export who has recorded all of his best form on the heavy at Auteuil.
There was plenty of support for him in the Silver Cup betting earlier in the week and the five-year-old, but some very fancied Munir and Souede-owned horses ran very poorly last weekend, so the pair of them will be hoping for a change of luck.
The Warren Greatrex-trained Jammin Masters (7/1 Bet365) is also very prominent in the Silver Cup betting and appears to be on an upward curve.
He ran a decent race at Carlisle behind Count Meribel on his first run of the season and Greatrex believes he will turn into a decent stamp of a horse over this kind of a distance when encountering soft going. With sporadic showers being predicted for the Ascot area this week, he may just get his favoured ground.
Acting Lass (7/1 BetVictor) appeared to have the world at his hooves when landing a treble last season, but bombed out badly in his last race at Kempton where he was made the favourite.
His trainer Harry Fry is very much in form and fans of his Acting Lass appear to be keeping the faith with both the trainer and the horse, backing him into a general 6/1 with only BetVictor now offering 7/1.

Silver Cup Handicap Chase Longshot
With a field of 16 going to post there is definitely some each-way value to be had and one such runner is the Venetia Williams-trained Otago Trail (NB). The experienced 10-year-old made an excellent comeback in the Listed Rehearsal Chase at Newcastle three weeks ago after a spell on the sidelines.
Otago Trail has some serious form; Before his enforced break he won the Rehearsal Chase, was deemed good enough to run in the Paddy Power Chase, came second to Bristol De Mai in the Peter Marsh, then won the Masters Handicap Chase at Sandown Park. 12/1 with Paddy Power is a more than handsome price for the Williams runner.
Should the trainer's other runner Houblon Des Obeaux make an appearance in the Silver Cup, rather than heading to Chepstow, the veteran performer is not without a chance either.
Winner of this race five years ago, the 11-year-old may not be the force of old but he can pop up with the odd decent run from time to time. The 25/1 available for him at Bet365 currently stands out like a sore thumb.
