It's finally here! After 56 gruelling weeks of romance, heartbreak and leisure the remaining Love Island contestants are getting ready for the highly anticipated finale, taking place tonight at 9pm BST. The winners of the show, who will be voted for by the public, will receive £50,000 and be further catapulted into the public eye for a while, before inevitably resorting to student club night appearances and low-level Instagram sponsorship to sustain themselves.
Currently in the lead at top specials bookmakers are Dani and Jack, 1/10 to win outright with Ladbrokes. The duo have remained in the top spot since early June when the series began and haven’t budged since. In fact, the lovebirds are so short in odds for the win that bookies have begun offering ‘Betting without Jack Fincham + Dani Dyer’ markets to keep punters interested.
Something would need to go seriously wrong for Dani and Jack to lose the 2018 edition of Love Island. Apart from some minor tetchiness, and a bit of a row over lie detector tests, the couple have rarely wavered from being downright smitten with each other. Don’t get me wrong, the show’s producers have certainly given a fair whack to ripping the couple apart and destroying hearts across the nation, but alas they didn’t succeed.
As always there will be a little bit of nervousness tonight. The couple will need to decide whether to split the money or be selfish and take it all themselves. The 1/10 ‘Yes’ option at Paddy Power makes it near impossible to turn a profit in this market, asserting that love shall conquer all and the pair will indeed decide to split their winnings.
Most viewers will be delighted to see Dani and Jack take home their crowns. The couple have already spoken about moving in together, so it looks like Love Island has provided us with a genuine love story this year (along with the usual dosage of heartbreak, agony and emotional turmoil).
Here’s where the betting gets very interesting. With Dani and Jack’s win all but sealed, the betting without market provides some food for thought. Josh and Kaz are priced at 10/11 with Betway with Paul Knops and Laura Anderson listed at 7/4 with Karamba. Punters should place their money on one of these two options, as both Wes Nelson and Megan Barton Hanson have been highly divisive throughout the season, making it incredibly unlikely for them to come anywhere but dead last.
Laura Anderson has had a tough time in the villa. She was put through the ringer by two islanders (Wes + Jack Fowler) before ending up with Paul. This could see the flight attendant receive some sympathy votes.
On the other hand, Josh and Kaz have been steady and perhaps boringly likeable. Josh was not without controversy (viewers were annoyed at how he dumped Georgia), but he and Kaz’s final date ended up with them professing their seemingly genuine love for one another, a poignant moment that secured a one way ticket into viewers’ hearts.
Love Island betting fans might find that a straight forecast tickles their fancy a little bit more than any other markets do for tonight’s final. With Ladbrokes you can place a bet on both the first and second placed couples, with a first place to Dani and Jack and second place to Josh and Kaz option looking valuable.
As already stated, Josh and Kaz have been a relatively inoffensive pair since coupling up, and didn’t really divide the audience like some islanders who have already exited (we’re looking at you Alex). The 11/10 offered on them coming second to Dani and Jack looks to be a worthwhile wager and should be a good accompaniment for tonight’s TV shenanigans.
