Three FA Cup Fifth Round Betting Tips To Consider Backing

Three FA Cup Fifth Round Betting Tips To Consider Backing

Quick Tips:

Newport County vs Manchester City Tips

If Manchester City’s recent performances against lower-league opposition are anything to go by, Newport County could be in for a tough afternoon at Rodney Parade.

Pep Guardiola’s men showed no mercy in meetings with Burton Albion and Rotherham United last month, demolishing the former 9-0 in the first leg of their League Cup semi-final and then inflicting a 7-0 defeat on the Yorkshiremen in the FA Cupthird round.

City also hammered Burnley 5-0 in the fourth round of the competition to set up this clash with Newport, although all three of those aforementioned games did take place at the Etihad Stadium.

The Premier League champions may therefore find it a little tougher to rack up the goals away from home, although odds of 17/20 (Coral) on the visitors scoring four or more times suggests that the best bookmakers do not consider it too unlikely.

It could, however, be worth focusing your attention on the other end of the field, with City – aside from that second-half collapse in a 2-1 defeat by Newcastle United – having recaptured their defensive solidity of late.

In their 11 matches across three competitions so far in 2019, Guardiola’s charges have kept eight clean sheets and conceded only four goals. With that in mind, take up Betfair’s offer of 5/6 of a Manchester City victory to nil.

TIP: Manchester City to win to nil

Doncaster Rovers vs Crystal Palace Tips

Crystal Palace were losing finalists in 2015/16 and supporters will be daring to dream once more after being handed a winnable tie against Doncaster Rovers in the fifth round.

The FA Cup has opened up beyond many people’s expectations this season, with Liverpool, Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur already eliminated and either Chelsea or Manchester United set to follow before the quarter-finals.

Spurs were knocked out by Roy Hodgson’s men at the end of last month, as goals from Connor Wickham and Andros Townsend earned Palace an impressive 2-0 victory at Selhurst Park.

Their game plan will have to be different this time around, however; while Mauricio Pochettino’s men dominated possession and pushed high up the pitch, Doncaster will likely sit deep and deny Palace space in between their backline.

Hodgson’s side have often struggled when they are not able to play on the counter-attack, so an early goal for the visitors – you can get 19/10 on the Eagles leading after half an hour with Ladbrokes – could be vital to their chances of success as the hosts would subsequently be forced to come out on play.

Doncaster are unlikely to be overly negative on Sunday afternoon – they are League One’s second-highest scorers this term – but facing superior opposition will force them to change their approach. Given that Palace’s finishing has consistently let them down in 2018/19, go for under 2.5 goals in this one (evens with 888Sport).

TIP: Under 2.5 goals

Chelsea vs Manchester United Tips

Chelsea and Manchester United are two clubs who seem to be moving in opposite directions at present.

When Ole Gunnar Solskjaer replaced Jose Mourinho at the helm of the latter in the middle of December, United were 11 points behind their upcoming opponents in the Premier League table, with their top-four hopes seemingly already over.

Two months later, though, and the Red Devils have overtaken Chelsea in the race for the final Champions League qualification spot.

Attention now turns to the FA Cup, which Maurizio Sarri may have to take more seriously than he initially intended as he fights for his job at Stamford Bridge.

Under numerous different managers Chelsea have always possessed a knack for pulling out a big result when they need one, but there has been little in their recent displays to suggest that they are capable of beating an in-form United team who, despite being outclassed by Paris Saint-Germain on Tuesday, have been superb in domestic competition under Solskjaer.

United’s biggest improvement has come in the final third, where the likes of Marcus Rashford, Paul Pogba and Anthony Martial have all looked rejuvenated since Mourinho’s departure.

The 2-0 loss to Paris Saint-Germain was the only time United have failed to find the back of the net in their last 18 games, a figure which is likely to rise to 19 when you bear in mind that defensive resolve is not a trait which has been associated with Chelsea’s recent performances.

Yet with the under-fire Sarri likely to name a strong starting XI, the Blues will fancy their chances of extending a run which has seen them score in each of their last five matches at Stamford Bridge. Back goals for both teams at 7/10 (William Hill).

TIP: Both teams to score
