Former Cheltenham Festival-winning jockey Paddy Aspell has picked out his best Cheltenham betting tips for this year's Festival. Find out below what Cheltenham bets he fancies for each day of the 2019 Festival.
Cheltenham Day 1 Betting Tips
There is an 18-runner field for the 2019 Cheltenham Festival's opening Supreme Novices' Hurdle (Grade 1), and I think the British-trained runners will get off to a winning start.
I’m a big Al Dancer fan and, although he could be joined at the head of the betting by Angels Breath, he has the class and experience in large fields to come out on top here.
In the Arkle Novices' Chase Glen Forsa is a big talent for the future and can give jockey Johnny Burke the biggest win of his career.
Gordon Elliot has answered a lot of punters prayers by letting Apple's Jade take her chance in the day's featured Champion Hurdle (Grade 1), and I can see her leading from flagfall. Provided she hurdles straight, she will take some catching.
I have my fingers crossed for another Irish winner in the National Hunt Chase (Grade 2). Discorama for trainer Paul Nolan deserves more luck than he endured at Naas last time and could gain revenge over Ballyward under the very capable amateur Barry O'Neill.
Advised Tuesday Cheltenham Bets:
- Bet Al Dancer for Supreme Novices' Hurdle at 9/2 with 888 Sport
- Bet Glen Forsa for Arkle Novices' Chase at 4/1 with Ladbrokes
- Bet Apple's Jade for Champion Hurdle at 2/1 with William Hill
- Bet Discorama for National Hunt Chase at 7/1 with Coral
Cheltenham Day 2 Betting Tips
The Irish can get the second day's action underway with a winner in the form of City Island in the Ballymore Novices' Hurdle (Grade 1). This horse has been very well campaigned by Martin Brassil and is owned by the race sponsor Sean Mulryan, so I’m sure they they would like to keep the prize inhouse!
The Champion Bumper (Grade 1) can be a bit of a punting graveyard. The Irish have a very strong hand in this race, but I like the Paul Nicholls-trained Ask For Glory. A winning Irish pointer made all in his only bumper outing at Chepstow in December to win by 13 lengths.
Advised Wednesday Cheltenham Bets:
- Bet City Island for Ballymore Novices' Hurdle at 8/1 with BetHard
- Bet Ask For Glory for Champion Bumper at 14/1 with William Hill
Cheltenham Day 3 Betting Tips
By day three of the 2019 Cheltenham Festival, jockeys, yrainers and hopefully punters will have a better idea of where the best ground is, and what tactics are providing the most success.
Paisley Park destroyed his opponents in the Cleeve Hurdle at Cheltenham last time and is a horse that’s improving at a rapid rate. I think he’s capable of giving trainer Emma Lavelle her biggest winner to date in the Stayers' Hurdle (Grade 1).
Trainer Henry De Bromhead and owner Kenneth Alexander are accumulating a very exciting team of mares this season. Although their leading fancy Honeysuckle has been ruled out of the Dawn Run Mares' Novices' Hurdle (Grade 2), they have good back up in Sinoria. I believe she can come out on top here on just her fourth start under rules.
Advised Thursday Cheltenham Bets:
- Bet Paisley Park for Stayers' Hurdle at 15/8 with BetHard
- Bet Sinoria for Dawn Run at 7/1 with William Hill
Cheltenham Day 4 Betting Tips
Day 4 could well prove to be the best day of the Cheltenham Festival as my most exciting chances take to the stage. By now, finding the best or freshest ground is a must and jockeyship will be at a premium.
Sir Eric should start favourite for the opening Triumph Hurdle (Grade 1) and this high class ex-Flat performer has to be the Joseph O Brien-trained banker of the week for me. A smooth-travelling, fluent jumper, he is all class and should relish Cheltenham.
Later, Aidan Coleman takes the ride again on Dickie Diver in the Albert Bartlett Novices' Hurdle (Grade 1). He is unlucky not to be still unbeaten in three runs and can reverse the form with his only previous conquerer, Lisnagar Oscar.
Pat Kelly is a trainer I really respect and his record with Festival runners is fantastic. Presenting Percy is now a two-time winner at the meeting and can make it three in the Cheltenham Gold Cup (Grade 1). He hasn’t managed to jump a fence in public this season owing to unsuitable ground, but did supposedly school well around Galway Racecourse last week. He will have been well prepared by his shrewd trainer and can defy the history books to win Friday's feature event.
Advised Friday Cheltenham Bets:
- Bet Sir Eric for Triumph Hurdle at Evens with BetHard
- Bet Dickie Diver for Albert Bartlett at 7/1 with Coral
- Bet Presenting Percy for Cheltenham Gold Cup at 7/2 with William Hill
