All eyes will be on Michael van Gerwen at the World Darts Championship this month as he seeks to frustrate the bookmakers and land a third world title.
So popular is Van Gerwen that his darts betting odds on winning the World Darts Championship are tiny.
MVG is the heavy favourite with every bookmaker in the business to win the title at the Ally Pally on New Year’s Day.
And with so much confidence in the Dutchman, bookmakers are offering up darts betting specials on MVG to stretch those odds to favourable lengths.
So, here are some of the Michael van Gerwen betting specials you may want to consider…
There have been 53 televised nine-dart finishes in the history of the sport, and Michael van Gerwen boasts five of them. His first came in 2007 against Raymond van Barneveld at the Masters of Darts. MVG became the youngest ever player to throw a nine-darter that day.
Eleven years on and he is still at it. The Dutchman’s last nine-darter came against Rob Cross in the 2016 UK Open. That landed him a smooth £10,000.
A nine-darter at the Ally Pally this year is certainly doable.

Van Gerwen is priced at 5/2 with Red Bet to sink a nine-darter. Those are some slim odds, so it may actually be worth backing him at 2/7 NOT to complete the feat. After all, there hasn’t been one in the last two years of the World Darts Championship. They are few and far between.
Van Gerwen is seeded first for the World Darts Championship and is in the top quarter of the draw. His toughest prospective opponent before the semi-finals, therefore, is World Number 8 Simon Whitlock. In reality, MVG should be reaching the final of this competition, meaning darts betting fans can bet on who he may face.
Defending champion Rob Cross is the highest seed in the second half of the World Darts Championship draw. But it is Peter Wright at 11/2 with Mansion Bet who is the favourite to reach the final.
An MVG vs Wright final is worth backing at that price but the World Number 3 is out of form, and that may put some punters off.

The three men to have won titles in recent weeks are Daryl Gurney, Gerwyn Price and James Wade. Now, an MVG vs Price final is available at 18/1, but Price is a tricky player who bombs in and out of form.
The Grand Slam of Darts champ crashed at the Players Championship Finals last month and is not worth the risk.
The big bet, if you’re seeking long odds, is for Mensur Suljovic to reach the final.
The Austrian has had an exemplary 2018 and would be a deserving finalist in London on New Year’s Day. He also has a largely routine quarter of the World Darts Championship draw. MVG vs Suljovic in the final is priced at 12/1 with BetVictor.
MVG is the king of darts and plenty is expected from the big man this December. Yet can he complete a shock triple special laid on by Betway? They have MVG at 8/1 to hit a nine-darter, 170 checkout AND win the World Darts Championship.
That seems outlandish at first but, as already discussed, MVG has five televised nine-darters to his name already. And as recently as October this year did the Dutchman land a 170 checkout when beating Paul Nicholson at the European Championship.

Van Gerwen’s checkout percentage for 2018 is 44.11 per cent. Only Kim Huybrechts - at 44.22 per cent - has better form when eyeing the doubles. So you can trust he will hit those doubles when required.
Van Gerwen’s odds on winning the World Darts Championship are very short, which is why punters are seeking other bets to place on Mighty Mike. This three-peat is the sort that will keep you hooked all tournament.
With Van Gerwen on the oche, anything can happen.
