888 Poker has announced it will upgrade its loyalty scheme as part of a move intended to make the experience friendlier to casual players. From 28th March 2016, 888 Poker Club will offer players a new programme in which they can complete challenges in exchange for points.
When announcing the upgrade, 888 revealed that players can earn points by wagering on poker, casino games or sports betting. Challenges can be completed while players build up enough points to unlock gold tokens and climb to the next level. Eventually it will be possible for players to exchange their gold tokens for a prize of their choosing.
Being part of the 888 Poker Club will also include free access to poker tournaments with a guaranteed $100,000 monthly prize fund. Another reward will be a prize scratch card, which can be unlocked every five levels in the club. The final reward will be bonus levels, but 888 is yet to reveal exactly how these will function.
The new loyalty scheme will be more appealing to recreational players as it makes it easier to progress. This is simply because players will not be moved down in levels, even after long periods of inactivity.
In making this change, 888’s scheme is switching from a rakeback system, which is more favourable to frequent players. Those individuals tend to benefit more than infrequent players because they have the greater potential to earn more money from their rakeback share.
Poker sites generate revenue by charging players a rake fee to play in poker rooms – typically 5% of the entire pot. As a loyalty incentive, some poker sites will offer to pay back a percentage of all rake fees paid by their players. For example, a player might be able to earn back 25% on $100 worth of fees paid in the most recent calendar month, but this can vary depending on a player’s VIP status.
Moving forward, 888 Poker has instead chosen to adopt a more casual system that can benefit recreational players who aren’t consistently active. In a recent announcement on the Two Plus Two forum, 888 Poker stated:
“The vast majority of our players will benefit much more from the new [programme], which will be easier to understand.”
888 Poker has also provided reassurance to existing players who have generated rakeback, promising:
“888poker will fully [honour] its cashback commitment to all players.”
The poker site also explained that current players are “entitled to yearly cashback” before the scheme changes, which is likely to be appreciated by players sitting on large sums of rakeback.
When 888 Poker Club launches on 28th March, players will see their reward points automatically exchanged for an equal value of gold tokens. The new scheme will convert the points at one cent per token, as detailed in an email sent out to VIP players. Visit 888 Poker today for a packed weekly schedule of poker tournaments.
