Morris Wins Big at PartyPoker UK Poker Championships Event

Birmingham, England native Steven Morris turned £5,300 into £70,000 by taking home the PartyPoker LIVE UK Poker Championships Super High Roller title Wednesday. The tournament, held at the Dusk Till Dawn Casino in Nottingham, fielded 40 players including recent PartyPoker ambassador Marcel Luske and MILLIONS Germany 50,000 Super High Roller winner Michael Chi Zhang.

The final table finished with Morris on top followed by Nishid Hindocha (£45,000), Xiaoyang Luo (£32,000), Tom Middelton (£22,000), Chris Sly (£15,000) and Nocholas Todd (£10,000). The relatively unknown Morris was thrilled to take home the big prize as he deftly weaved through the experience field to victory.

“I've been close a few times. I feel ecstatic to be fair, honestly.,” Morris said. “Played it last minute and the first day went pretty well coming back as chip leader. Today we just ran up a stack! The first day was really tough, with a tough table. I had Steven Warburton, Tom Middleton, Michael Zhang and Dominik Nitsche. With it being a really small field it was really tough. It's pretty sick; different to winning a package and playing a massive field.”

Final Day Highlights

With 14 competitors left on the final day, the action was palpable as Luske was the first to be eliminated by Hindocha, the eventual runner up. Later, Morris knocked out Luke Marsh after Marsh went all-in with pocket tens and was painfully defeated by Morris’s pair of jacks. Morris claimed 900,000 in chips with the win accounting for 25 percent of the chips in play. En route to his showdown with Morris, Hindocha knocked off Fabio Sperling and rode a streak of flushes to eventually become chip leader heading into the unofficial final table.

From Short Stack to Champ

At the final table, Hindocha and Morris began way ahead of the competition as the only two players in the millions in chips. The most experienced player at the table, Middleton, was defeated by Luo with trip eights against his pair of nines. That helped the China native eventually take over the chip lead amassing over 2 million.

All the while Morris had dropped to the short stack for the tournament field as the final three players were left standing. After breaking a trip jack tie with a better kicker to surpass Luo, Hindocha called an all-in on the small blind from Luo and defeated his nine-ten with an ace-ten on the big blind.

Morris found himself with around half the amount of chips as Hindocha heading into the showdown, but quickly doubled up with a cheeky all-in raise on pocket deuces to just squeak by the ace-ten of Hindocha. Morris nearly took home the title early after seeing his two-pair improve to a full house on the river, but Hindocha thought the better of it and folded away his flush.

Slowly but surely whittling his opponents stack down, Morris finally struck the final blow at around 11:30 pm defeating Hindocha’s jack-nine with an ace-jack. Morris, ecstatic with the victory admitted Hindocha had talked about working out a deal earlier in the showdown, but his trust in his short-stack game convinced him to play on and go for the big money.

“I was pretty confident that if I could grind him down I'd be alright. Obviously, I hit the two-outer originally, but that's the thing - you've got to win flips and he had his own moments. It was pretty sick!”

Coming up in April for PartyPoker is the MILLIONS Grand Final at Casino Barcelona, one of the biggest poker tournaments in European history.
