Unibet Introduces its First Ever Online Poker MTT Festival

Unibet is going to host its inaugural online poker festival named the Unibet Online Series (UOS) from February 26th to March 11th. This will be a big moment for its Unibet Poker brand as it continues to cultivate its offerings since it left Microgaming Poker Network to become an independent site.

Tune Change Sees Unibet Follow Competitors

The award winning poker room previously refused to join the ranks of its competitors, who have all created online multi-table tournaments, but it appears that they have changed their tune. As reported by media outlets, Unibet’s Head of Poker David Pomroy said:

“The honest but not so flattering answer is that previously we couldn’t allocate development time to bring our tournament offering up to where it is now. Given that our client launched in 2014 with (what was at the time) a relatively small development team, we had to pick our battles, and improving tournaments was put on a shelf until a later date.”

He continued:

“We feel that our tournament offering and available formats are more than competitive now and this was a natural next step after launching a new MTT schedule and Sunday Majors in October 2017. We’ve been itching to get this launched but wanted to wait until the start of the new Unibet Open season as the tour and the series will tie in together via Battle of Champions.”

Tournament Structure

The festival has 28 events broken down into three different tiers. Nano, Low and High options help to make a huge schedule of 84 tournaments with prize pools of €300,000 available to players. The online poker room, owned by the ever-growing Kindred Group, is also running satellites, providing players with an opportunity to qualify for the event of their choice for significantly less.

Tournaments with buy-ins ranging from €0.10 to €1, making it easy for any player regardless of their bankroll to play in the online poker tournament. Low events will feature buy-ins from €2 to €25 while the High events will cater to those feeling like staking some more, with buy-ins ranging from €25 to €100.

Six tournaments will be available each day throughout the Unibet Online Series with three taking place at 7pm GMT and the remainder beginning at 8:30pm GMT. Tournaments will offer both classic no-limit hold’em and pot-limit Omaha varieties. Many different formats will be up for exploration by players too including rebuy, bounty, ante, freezeout and progressive bounty.

Four leaderboards will be hosted including one for each tier and an overriding leaderboard. The victor atop the overall leaderboard will receive €1,500, while the winners of the Nano, Low and High tournaments will be awarded €700, €500 and €200.

In addition to their money prize, the overall leaderboard winner will receive an invite to play in the inaugural Unibet Battle of Champions at the end of 2018. The event will consist of all Unibet Poker champions from 2018 - four Unibet Open winners, four Unibet Online Series winner and the winner of the Deep Stack Open leaderboard, in a nine-player tournament with more details to be released later this year.
