Paddy Power has come a long way since the times of being known just as Ireland's biggest independent bookmaker. Now a huge presence in the online betting world, the Irish bookmaker has long been a player in the online betting, online casino, online poker and retail betting industries.
After strengthening its position by merging with Betfair in 2016, many wondered what was next for the cheeky Irish bookmaker. That next step became clear in 2018 when the company acquired fantasy sports site FanDuel.
Just in time for the start of the 2019 NFL season, Paddy Power Fantasy hit the market, adding another string to the PP bow. Check out our Paddy Power Fantasy review below.
|'Beginners only' tournaments available||No dedicated app available|
|Unique Cash Card PPlus payment method||Limited amount of sports available|
|Huge tournament prizes available|
The welcome bonus at Paddy Power Fantasy is very simple and straightforward. It's advertised on site as 'Get up to €20 back as cash', and it is just that.
If you sign up and enter a daily fantasy tournament but don't manage to win a cash prize in that tournament, your qualifying entry will be refunded to your Paddy Power account balance as cash. It's that simple.
As with all sign-up offers, there are terms and conditions to be aware of, but none of them are too outlandish. The minimum deposit is €5 and it must be made by debit card or Paypal – no other payment methods qualify. The maximum cashback is €20 per customer, and of course, no refund will be due if you manage to finish in the prize positions in your first tournament.
There's nothing more off-putting than a difficult registration process. Paddy Power Fantasy is fully aware of that and they have made the process as easy and as quick as possible.
First, you'll need to enter your personal information – name, address, date of birth, mobile number and email address.
Next is security – selecting your password and choosing your security question and answer.
After you've added these security layers to your account, you can choose either Euro or Sterling as your base currency and choose a daily, weekly or monthly deposit limit for your account if you wish.
Finally, you can tick a couple of boxes to opt in to marketing correspondence if you so choose. This is entirely a matter of personal preference, but we recommend opting in so you don't miss any promotional push messages or emails.
Once those details have been completed and submitted, the next page invites you to add your preferred payment method and make your first deposit. This step can be skipped though, if you'd rather do it another time.
Within 24 hours of opening the account, we received an email looking for verification documents. While this may seem like a pain, verifying customers' ID is something all regulated bookmakers are advised to do. In this instance, it was a case of emailing a copy of photo ID, proof of address and proof of payment method ownership. The account was then fully set up and ready to use.
As you would expect from a top of the range site like Paddy Power, there are plenty of deposit and withdrawal options.
Visa and Mastercard debit cards are accepted, as well as bank transfers. A minimum deposit of €5 is in place here, with maximums depending on the card type. The minimum withdrawal via any of these methods is €10, but again the maximum will depend on the card type. As standard, withdrawals to your bank will likely arrive in two or three working days, but can take up to five.
The three main e-wallets – Paypal, Skrill and Neteller – are accepted at Paddy Power Fantasy, as well as paysafecard. Each of these have a minimum deposit of €5, except Paypal, for which the minimum deposit is €10. Quick and easy withdrawals should have the funds in your account within a few hours.
What sets Paddy Power Fantasy apart from other online sites is their Cash Card and Cash Card PPlus. With the Cash Card, you can deposit and withdraw funds to and from your Paddy Power Fantasy balance in a Paddy Power retail outlet. The Cash Card PPlus is effectively a prepaid Mastercard. This allows you to use your Paddy Power balance to make online purchases, face to face purchases or even ATM withdrawals.
Whether you're using desktop or a mobile device, Paddy Power Fantasy is equally easy to use, as the site is identical regardless of the platform.
While there is no dedicated Paddy Power Fantasy app, it is accessible as a section of the standard Paddy Power Android or iOS app. All standard options for logging in are available, including touch ID, which means you'll never have to remember your password.
Once logged in, you'll find yourself in the lobby. While there's a huge amount of tournaments to choose from, it has absolutely no impact on the mobile site's sleek, quick performance.
On top of the number of games, the amount of information available on site is enormous. With player game logs, including all historical data for the season for every player in the league, there's a massive amount to digest. For that reason, we'd advise using the desktop site, as you'll have a larger screen to work with and less scrolling to do. That said, everything is available in the exact same way on mobile, so it's a matter of preference.
Being affiliated with US-based FanDuel, it shouldn't come as a surprise to learn that the majority of sports on offer at Paddy Power Fantasy are American.
For American Football fans, you'll find two tabs in the lobby – NFL (where the majority of games are listed) and CFL. Basketball similarly has two tabs – one for NBA daily fantasy games and one for WNBA games.
Fantasy football lives in the lobby too, with the Premier League having a dedicated 'EPL' tab. MLB and PGA Tour golf round up the numbers, with less games on offer, but still enough to keep fantasy fans of the sport engaged.
Paddy Power Fantasy is in its infancy, so we hope and expect to see a wider range of sports available down the line. DFS for eSports, Rugby, Tennis and Horse Racing would be great additions.
The names of tournaments at Paddy Power Fantasy might not mean much at first glance, but it doesn't take long to get your head wrapped around it. Generally, the name will be the total prize pool, followed by the day, the sport and game name – eg €125k Tue MLB Rally.
The lobby is very neatly laid out and easy to navigate. At the top of the page, the seven types of game are listed:
Different filters are listed along the left hand side of the page. Players can filter by a number of options including entry fee, start time and game style.
Tournaments are available for all experience levels and budgets. Entries begin at €1 and go all the way up to amounts in the hundreds. Before entering, the maximum number entrants is clearly displayed along with the current number entered.
Top prizes vary from tournament to tournament. Some offer you the chance to win an entry to another game for a bigger prize. The big prize funds are the jewel in the crown though. Every week during the NFL regular season, the €3m NFL Sunday Million gives entrants the chance to pick a DFS team for a chance at the €1million first prize. An additional €2million is available in prizes further down the leaderboard – all for a €9 entry! With the pools here being linked to the FanDuel pools, these 'millionaire maker' tournaments are a common occurrence across various sports.
If you think a tournament like that is beyond your skill level, you can avail of your status as a beginner. All players at Paddy Power Fantasy are at beginner level for their first 50 tournaments. This doesn't restrict the tournaments you can enter. Instead, it allows you to enter tournaments for beginners only. The prizes won't be in the millions, but the entry fees are generally lower, and it's a great way to cut your teeth if you're new to the world of DFS.
Once you have a grasp of it and you've selected the tournament you want to enter from the lobby, you'll be selecting your first lineup. As with all DFS tournaments, you have a set budget to build your team. As you pick, every player in the league's full game log information is available to you, complete with in depth stats like passing yards and touchdowns in NFL, to goals and assists in football.
Keeping track of your entries couldn't be any easier. 'Upcoming', 'Live' and 'History' tabs at the top of every allow you access to view all of your entries. Here, you can also check current or final tournament standings, to see how you've done and most importantly, if you've scooped a prize.
As mentioned earlier, Paddy Power Fantasy is in its infancy, so promotions and bonuses are likely something we'll have to wait a little while for.
Tournaments which are free to enter pop up occasionally and the welcome bonus is a great kick start to your DFS experience. It would be great if a loyalty program of sorts was offered, but it's something we'll have to wait for.
Paddy Power Fantasy customer support couldn't be more available if it tried. Available by every channel you can think of, around the clock, customer support agents are always on hand to assist.
24/7 phone lines and live chat are available, with the latter available on mobile, which is always handy. If you'd rather get in touch online, e-mails are usually responded to within a few hours or you can tweet @askpaddypower with your query.
If you'd rather find the answer yourself, the help center at the top of the page is the place to visit. FAQ's are listed at the top, with categories for all other queries. A dedicated help center search feature is there too, for those more niche queries.
Responsible gambling is something taken very seriously at Paddy Power fantasy. From the time of registration where you're offered the chance to set a deposit limit before you start using your account, right to the 'Please Gamble Responsibly' slogan on every page of the site, it's clear this is a big focus.
While most online operators have a page dedicated to responsible gambling, Paddy Power have an entire microsite – responsiblegaming.paddypower.com
The site offers guidance for anyone affected by gambling, be it the person themselves or a family member or friend.
Paddy Power Fantasy isn't the only DFS site on the market, but it's definitely one of the best. From the time you log in and join tournaments for beginners only to becoming a fantasy expert and aiming for a life changing prize, something big could be just around the corner. With tournaments every day across different sports, there's no time like the present to flex your fantasy muscle.Visit Paddy Power Fantasy
