Gamblecast: Everything to Know About U.S. Sports Betting

In May 2018 a landmark ruling passed in the United States. PASPA, a piece of legislation that outlawed sports betting in the US, was repealed by the Supreme Court, paving the way for a fully legal US sports betting market to flourish.

Multiple states across the US are already taking bets, or preparing to take bets in the near future. At this point in time there are six states - Delaware, New Jersey, Mississipi, West Virginia, Pennsylvania and Rhode Island - in which a legal sports betting industry has been enacted after the SCOTUS decision.

The US betting market is expected to reach revenue of 8bn USD by 2030; a forecast which would place it as the second-largest market in the world.

By 2023, H2 Gambling Capital predicts that the US will push past the established UK market and set course on a trajectory for the second place position behind the biggest market, China, in 2030. The same report indicates that close to 200bn USD was being bet on sport illegally prior to the May 14th decision.

In this episode of Gamblecast, Richard Delaney speaks with Ryan Butler, sports betting contributor for Gambling.com about the far-reaching effects that the May 2018 decision will have on US sports betting in the future.
