Online sports betting launched in Colorado Colorado on May 1, less than seven months after voters in the state approved legal sports betting in a ballot referendum. The betting options are expected to be robust with a market to appeal to just about every sports bettor and sports fan, from tradition live bets to prop bets and futures bets.
Among the operators to launch is FOX Bet, part of The Stars Group, which is famous for its PokerStars platform. FOX Bet was a rebranding of BetStars sports betting following a wagering partnership between the two entities in 2019.
With that said, let’s take a look at what FOX Bet offers sports bettors in Colorado in the newly launched online betting market.
|#CustomBet Feature||Customer Support limited|
|Beautiful mobile app|
|Fantastic welcome offer|
We will say this again, but the FOX Bet mobile app is absolutely one of the best in the business and makes online sports betting on the go easy. When it comes to customer support, instant gratification is important. That is usually accomplished with a live chat.
Unfortunately, FOX Bet does not offer a live chat to users. If FOX Bet were to add a live chat, there would be nothing to put in the cons section.
FOX Bet currently offers a welcome offer in the form of a risk-free wager and a first deposit match.
For new players only, if you lose your very first bet, you will be credited back with a free bet within 24 hours of that amount, capped at $500. The only caveat with this welcome offer is that you must wager on an event with minimum odds of -200. From there, the free bet credit will expire in 30 days. FOX Bet also features a deposit bonus offer of an up to $500 match on your first deposit.
The registration process at the FOX Bet CO betting siteis simple, and you can apply for a regular user account and a real money wagering account.
For just a regular FOX Bet account, you simply need to provide your email, create a username and a password and agree to FOX Bet’s terms of service and confirm you are 21 years of age.
From here, you will be prompted to create a “Real Money Account” (assuming you intend on betting, you will need to do this). You will need to give personal information including your name, address, date of birth and at least last four digits of your social security number. Some players will need to provide their full Social Security number. Additionally you will be asked for a government-issued ID and potentially utility bills. This is to allow the FOXBet sportsbook to confirm your age and identity.
All deposits are subjected to a $10 minimum. For desktop users, you could be eligible for a “Fast Deposit” that applies for those who deposit with Visa/Mastercard, Skrill or eChecks. Keep in mind, some financial institutions still block gambling deposits made through their credit cards, so it’s best to have a backup payment method.
To assist in protecting users from fraud, FOX Bet does have a withdrawal rule in which your withdrawals are automatically credited back to the method in which you used to deposit, and up to the amount in which you deposited. These are applied to your oldest deposit first and most recent deposit last in this exact order: eCheck, Skrill and PayPal.
While all withdrawals do process quickly, for eChecks, you should allow for 3-10 business days before it appears, and if you’re using ewallets Skrill or PayPal, it should appear in mere minutes in our experience.
FOX Bet is available on every platform: Desktop, mobile web browsers and for both iOS and Android. While the mobile app is the shining example of a mobile app for online sportsbooks, the desktop version is also excellent.
When you arrive at the FOX Bet page on desktop, the login is to the top-right of the page. Going down the page, you’ll see the different sports across the middle of the page, with links to the promotions page, popular bets and results, too.
The default home page does not list any sports individually, but rather the Bet Boost and #CustomBets sections. The Bet Boost is essentially an odds boost, and #CustomBets lets you do just that: propose a custom bet by tweeting the sportsbook with your suggestion for a new betting market.
To the right of the page is where you’ll find the betslip where, once you make selections for wagers, you’ll be able to select the amount you want to bet and also create parlays.
After you have registered your FOX Bet account, iOS users can download the FOX Bet mobile app right from the App Store. However, if you’re an Android user, this is downloaded right from the FOX Bet website.
The biggest difference going from desktop to the Fox Bet app is that the betslip is found in the form of a “slip” graphic in the upper-right-hand section of the app, and the popular bets currently going on appear in slideshow form.
Both the desktop and mobile apps are top-of-the-line and have no underlying issues such as lag or buffering. FOX Bet should serve as a model for all online sportsbooks in terms of how a mobile app and desktop page should look for users. When it comes to convenient sports gambling, FOX Bet delivers.
As far as the FOX Bet platform and software is concerned, FOX Bet is all proprietary. There is a downloadable software for the online poker room in which you can share a wallet with FOX Bet. Other than that, users can bet right on a web browser, or download the iOS app from the App Store or directly from the FOX Bet website for Android users.
You will find the typical betting options every sports bettor has come to expect from a top-of-the-line online sportsbook. Name the sport or the bet and you will likely find it there.
Overall, in comparing FOX Bet to other notable competitors, there are some discrepancies, but overall, everything is similar. We found that FOX Bet may be a bit more reserved on underdogs and a bit more favorable on favorites, but this could all reflect the action the sportsbook gets.
All in all, there is nothing egregious here.
The Stars Group is well-known for PokerStars and with that, the Stars Rewards Program. However, that only pertains to the casino and online poker , which currently aren't available in Colorado, and seemingly has no connection with the sportsbook at this time.
The weak spot of FOX Bet is the customer support. While it does have an excellent FAQ section, other than that, the only support available is done via email form. A lot of other notable outlets have live chat available, which would allow for a more expeditious process in solving a problem.
Throughout the FOX Bet site, you will find information pertaining to Responsible Gaming and a hotline to call for problem gambling. Also, at the bottom of the page in the FAQ section, gamblers will find a link to the Responsible Gaming page. Here, there is additional information on support groups and organizations users can contact if they need assistance.
Also, there is information about in-house things FOX Bet offers such as self-exclusion and different limits you can place on yourself such as spending, deposits and session time to assist yourself in stunting a potential problem.
Other than the customer support having no live chat, there’s nothing to complain about when it comes to FOX Bet. The FOX Bet app is terrific, there is plenty of innovation, including the #CustomBets section, and software-wise, it is atop the industry in terms of performance, appearance and functionality. FOX Bet should do very well in what is expected to be a robust Colorado online sportsbook space.
