To celebrate the first year of its partnership with Churchill Downs, FanDuel is offering a “$20 No Sweat Bet” to new and existing sportsbook and daily fantasy customers who want to bet on the Kentucky Derby.

The race is set for Saturday, May 6, at the Churchill Downs track in Louisville. It will be telecast on NBC. Coverage begins at 2:30 p.m. ET, with the race getting underway at about 5 p.m. ET.

‘A Sure Winner’

The FanDuel Sportsbook app allows bettors to wager on horse racing without downloading a separate app. A horse racing icon on the FanDuel app guides users to Kentucky Derby betting options, the company said in a news release.

Andrew Moore, general manager of FanDuel racing, said the company’s role as the Kentucky Derby’s official wagering partner gives fans “a truly integrated experience for the race as the only sportsbook where you can bet on the race.”

“Last year, we became the only sportsbook to offer a single wallet platform that allows fans to bet on horse racing and see that innovation as an avenue to introduce new audiences to horse racing,” Moore said.

Churchill Downs Racetrack President Mike Anderson said the company is “thrilled” by the partnership, calling it “a sure winner for everyone.”

Derby Favorite Has Regal Ancestry

The Kentucky Derby, held annually on the first Saturday in May, is the initial leg of the popular Triple Crown. The other two races are the Preakness Stakes, held at Pimlico Race Course in Baltimore this year on May 20, and the Belmont Stakes, set for June 10 at Belmont Park in Elmont, New York.

This year’s Kentucky Derby favorite, Forte, is one of eight descendants of 1973 Triple Crown winner Secretariat in the May 6 race. Forte is on a five-race winning streak and, for the Kentucky Derby, is a 5-2 favorite at FanDuel. Other contenders in the 20-horse Derby field include Tapit Trice and Practical Move, both at 8-1.

While Forte is the favorite this year, some horses in previous years have overcome long odds to win the Kentucky Derby. This includes the 2022 winner Rich Strike, a horse that entered the race as an 80-1 long shot.
