How the Philadelphia 76ers Futures Odds Could Change After the NBA Draft
The 2022 NBA draft is scheduled for 8 p.m. ET on Thursday at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn.
And there are dozens of rumored player moves, deals, and trades percolating throughout the Association. Here is the breakdown of one of those rumors.
The Philadelphia 76ers Likely to Make Move
The Philadelphia 76ers, looking to strengthen their roster, are led by Daryl Morey, a general manager who loves making major trades.
The Sixers are in talks with the Houston Rockets for shooting guard Eric Gordon, who averaged 13.4 points per game (PPG) in 57 games, shot 47% overall and 41% from 3-point range.
Philadelphia has the 23rd pick Thursday and Houston is looking to rebuild its roster. The Rockets have three first-round picks: No. 3, 17 (via the Nets) and 26 (via the Mavs).
Morey knows Gordon from their time together in Houston. James Harden, who was traded from Brooklyn to Philly before the trade deadline, was also part of that Rockets team.
Gordon would be a nice fit with the Sixers, as a catch-and-shoot player to team with Harden and Joel Embiid.
The 76ers aren’t the only team talking to Houston about Gordon. The Phoenix Suns and Miami Heat are also in discussions.
What Else Has to Happen?
Houston would want to be solid with the player it takes at No. 3.
Although Auburn’s Jabari Smith is the odds-on favorite to be taken No.1 by the Orlando Magic, it is very possible Gonzaga’s Chet Holmgren or Duke’s Paolo Banchero could go in that spot.
Smith or Banchero would be a nice fit for the Rockets, as would Purdue’s Jaden Ivey, who has an elite first step and electric shot-making abilities.
Sixers' Futures Odds to Bet Ahead of the Draft
The 76ers are undervalued in the futures market. Brooklyn elected to move the pick it acquired from Philadelphia in the Harden trade to 2023.
The Nets are betting the 76ers will not be as strong as they were this previous season, and the news impacted the markets.
Philadelphia is +600 to win the Eastern Conference and is tied with the Miami Heat as the fourth-best favorite behind the Nets at +350, the Milwaukee Bucks at +300, and the Boston Celtics at +275.
I like betting the 76ers at +600 and expect them to be at +500 or lower after the draft.
Another Bet To Consider
I like the Atlanta Hawks at +3000 to win the Eastern Conference ahead of the draft.
The rumor mill has the Hawks with at least six possible trades on draft day and own the 16th and 44th picks.
